Album Description
Digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1981 album from the Manchester quartet, one of the most successful and consistent bands of the '80s and beyond. After the suicide of vocalist, Ian Curtis, the three surviving members of Joy Division regrouped under the band name New Order, adding Gillian Gilbert on keyboards. The rest, as they say, is history. Disc One in this package contains the original album in its digitally remastered glory. Disc Two is filled with 10 non-album singles, B-sides and remixes. This is as great as it gets! DO NOT BELIEVE ANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS FOR THIS REMASTER! by Mark Gasper 5 Stars
September 15, 2009
I won't waste your time with a lengthy review of the songs contained herein. I will only address the SHAMEFUL negative reviews which Amazon is continuing to allow to be posted. I can not presume to know if those reviewers had faulty initial pressings from late-2008, or faulty CD players. I can only tell you that as of today, September 15, 2009, the re-issue is PERFECT. NO glitches, skips, pops, clipping, crackles or channel-swapping on ANY of the tracks on EITHER disc. I sincerely wish that Amazon.com would REMOVE out-dated and/or fabricated false reviews of products. My only regret is that I BELIEVED those early, now-erroneous reviews of this remastered CD set. I wish I had decided to take a chance sooner in making the purchase. I bought my copy in a retail store (sorry Amazon, but Borders doesn't allow old, out-dated, erroneous "reviews" of products which it sells) with a store coupon, so I saved money and had an EASY way to make a return for a refund IF the discs had been faulty. NOTHING is faulty about this product. This is a marvelous 2-CD set, and I'm going to purchase the next 4 remasters. If you are a fan of New Order, you should do the same, as well as buying your own copy of Movement.

Caution DO NOT BUY THIS by dietermod (Akron, OH United States) 1 Stars

These CD's have been in effect recalled for numerous sonic errors primarily on the second disks. DO NOT BUY the November 11, 2008 versions. Rhino has re-released them as of August 25, 2009. These are the corrected versions.

Worth owning for JD fans by Daniel J. Leonard (Auckland - NZ) 4 Stars

If you're like me and more of a Joy Division fan than a New Order fan you might be relactant to buy this. However it's worth it - Disc 2 is very good and my personal favourite is "In A Lonely Place" (i'm convinced it's Curtis signing and not Bernard Sumner) a great song with such feeling & soul. Also i like the two versions of "Ceremony" - of course i'm always going to prefer New Order songs that sound just like Joy Division - why not.

New Order renewed by E. Maassen (Amsterdam, NL) 4 Stars

This collector's edition makes you remember how special their music was then and how good it is still now. The 2nd CD has hits and remixes, especially nice when you haven't bought the singles/EP's. Nice package, with the original design. Worth it's money.

Phenomenal Debut by Christopher Schutte (Ohio, USA) 5 Stars
January 30, 2009
From the ashes of Joy Division, New Order scaled great new wave heights on the strength of their techno/club sound. On their debut, however, they are a band still searching for their identity, and the search is phenomenal. This extended collectors edition adds now classic cuts to an already great package that blends the best elements of Joy Division with what was to become the best bits of New Order. Highly recommended for younger listeners who may be fans of Editors or Interpol.
