CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.5 based on 2 reviews)
| EFFIN FAST by Mr. John T. Hansen (St. Paul, MN United States) 4 Stars August 25, 2009 This CD is awesome. The songs are done really well and even a notch or two faster than it's studio counterparts. My only complaint is that overall the CD is quieter than all of my other CD's. Not entirely a huge deal, but when I ripped the CD to mp3s and play them on shuffle, I can tell right away when these songs start because of how much quieter it is.
| | "Gamma Ray" live during the "Majestic" tour of 2006 by Nikiforos V. Skoumas (Athens Greece, Cambridge UK) 5 Stars December 02, 2008 "Gamma Ray" is well identified as the band of Godfather of euro power metal Kai Hansen (ex "Helloween"). This is the third live album from the German outfit following "Skeletons in the Closet" (2003). A 2CD set including a total of 22 songs mostly concentrating on the post -Ralf Scheepers*- era.
This release stands as a momentum celebrating the band's first headlining North American tour of 2006 (NOT 2007) recorded at the "Medley" in Montreal, Canada. What hardcore fans should probably keep in mind is that the show capture here is in support of the "Majestic" studio album, not of the current "Land of the Free 2" opus. In an attempt to update the package the band has included four songs recorded during the current 2008 European tour.
Given that it has merely been five years since the last "...Ray" double live album with virtually no line up changes, one could question the purpose of this release. Well the set list here makes the difference being more "hit" orientated than before with a certain concentration and inclusion of "Majestic" songs.
Interestingly enough, it seems that the band has actually gained momentum over the years, now being able to play theater shows in almost every country/ state rather than club gigs as in the mid 90s.
Overall a very good set fascinating musicianship and crystal clear sound.
Power Play, UK magazine (issue 105) marks this album with 8/10 commenting: "All in all, this is a fantastic live album."
*Original "Gamma Ray" vocalist featured on the first 3 album, co founder of "Primal Fear"
