Album Description
Multi-platinum Island Records' five-man band Saliva has completed its aptly-titled fifth album, CINCO DIABLO, set to arrive in the physical and digital marketplace on December 16th - the ultimate alt-metal post-grunge must-have CD this twisted holiday season! The new album's first single pick, "Family Reunion," was #1 Most Added at Active Rock and Modern Rock radio and is already on over 75 stations at both formats. In advance support of CINCO DIABLO, Memphis favorites Saliva continue their never-ending headlining tour schedule with Jet Black Stare, Drowning Pool, and Tantric through Nov. 11th (Veteran's Day) in Texas. Saliva will play a halftime NBA homecoming gig at FedEx Forum in Memphis on Halloween, when the Grizzlies host the Magic. CINCO DIABLO is the long-awaited followed to Blood Stained Love Story, Saliva's fourth album, released nearly two years ago in January 2007. It gave the band the highest Soundscan debut of their career - #19-bullet on combined first week sales of 30,000 copies. The album also spun off one of Saliva's highest-charting singles, "Ladies and Gentlemen," which rose to #1 at Active Rock and #2 at Mainstream Rock. "Ladies and Gentlemen" was heard in a Sony Playstation commercial last year, and was also used in Wrestlemania and Ultimate Fighting show Wired. The song matched the success of their biggest single to date, "Always," which hit #1 at Active and Modern Rock back in 2002 (from the Back Into Your System album). Saliva - singer and lyricist Josey Scott, guitarists Wayne Swinny and Jon Montoya, bassist Dave Novotny, and drummer Paul Crosby - was formed in Memphis in 1996, and issued their eponymously titled indie debut the next year. Their major label debut arrived on Island's Uptown/Universal imprint in 2001, Every Six Seconds. It included their first charted rock single "Click Click Boom" and the Grammy-nominated #3 Mainstream Rock track, "Your Disease" (featured on the Dracula 2000 movie soundtrack). (Every Six Seconds, now available via the newly-relaunched Mercury Records label, received RIAA double-platinum certification in July 2008.)

Shows just how much Saliva has grown as musicians since their 2001 debut by George Dionne (Cape Cod, MA) 5 Stars

The Good "Family Reunion" kicks off the album in anthemic style, with a catchy groove and a memorable chorus hook. Is there a Saliva album that doesn't start off this way? "My Own Worst Enemy" is not a cover of the infamous Lit song, but its a guitar driven hard rock track with plenty of anger. The acoustic track "How Could You" delves into the torturous emotions you feel after catching you lover cheating on you. Josey delivers his lyrics with perfect emotion. "Hunt You Down" seems to be the flip song of its predecessor. This time the emotion factor is turned way up as Scott plots his revenge. "Forever and a Day" is another ballad-type track in which Scott wears his heart on his sleeve. "I'm Coming Back" is a throw-back to Saliva's debut sound that is sure to please long-time fans. The group pays homage to their roots and their hometown affections on "Southern Girls." The album's final track "So Long" is another song from the depths of Josey's heart. The Bad Nothing notable The Verdict Cinco Diablo shows just how much Saliva has grown as musicians since their 2001 debut Every Six Seconds. With each album they release, Saliva has shown that they are more than a rap-rock flash in the pan by branching out with more melodies and ballads. Don't think for a minute that the group has gone soft through. There are still plenty of anthems to rock out to.

Editorial Review is Wrong by Sam Krutchfeld (Victoria, Texas USA) 4 Stars

How lazy do you have to be to not know this is Saliva's sixth CD release. Isn't it clever to say the "aptly-titled" Cinco Diablo is the band's FIFTH release? It's even more clever that it's the sixth release. Let's see, Saliva, Every Six Seconds (Ooo. Ooo. Let me guess, their sixth release? LOL!), Back Into Your System, Survival of the Sickest (Uhmmm, their "sickest" release? Ha, ha, get it?), Blood Stained Love Story. That's five, Editorial Review. Don't even bother. It's Saliva. It's great. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I haven't played it yet.

Saliva's best since survival of the sickest by Robert J. England (Lynchburg, Va USA) 4 Stars

I was hoping this album would make up for their last album, Bloob Stained Love Story (which quite frankly, was slow, poppish, and sounded like they were selling out). I was not disappointed. Family Reunion - I liked this song, but its not a song I'd listen to on repeat My Own Worst Enemy - Good guitar rips, this song I'd put in an action movie Best of Me - This song is a little too repitive to listen to over and over, but its GREAT to listen to when you want to hear it. How Could You - Softer rock, a good song nevertheless Hunt You Down - One of my favorite saliva songs in years, up there with their early stuff. Judgement Day - My favorite song on this CD, amazing guitar rips, great to rock out to. Forever And A Day - Has the same sort of feel as Rest In Pieces, which i liked a lot, i love this song too even though it's still slower than i usually like. I'm Coming Back - Has a SERIOUS flashback to their old sound. This is a good song. Southern Girls - This song has a little classic rock feel to it, This is a great song if you like the ACDC style. So Long - Just like a a good movie that has a bad ending, this song kils the album, its the reason i couldnt give it 5 stars. With the exception of the last track, and "How Could You", this is a great album.

Back Into Your System

Saliva frontman Josey Scott unintentionally elevated his band above countless nĂ¼ metal clones by teaming up with Nickelback's Chad Kroeger to write and record the song "Hero" for the Spider-Man soundtrack. The tang of mainstream success was exactly what the Memphis, Tennessee, group needed to break away from the pack on Back into Your System. This follow-up to its major-label debut, Every Six Seconds, ups the heavy atmospherics and dyspepsia. "Always" takes on the touchy subject of domestic...

Every Six Seconds

Saliva's heavy rock--with a dash of rap--is at once current and timeless, unlike many of the bands spawned by Korn and Limp Bizkit. This Memphis-bred bunch's powerful, diverse debut features a dozen lyrically and musically focused tracks from a band clearly possessed of strong chops and smart heads. Rangy singer Josey Scott's passionate delivery works well when matched with the chunky riffing of "Musta Been Wrong," the soaring, layered song's intensity balanced by shredding guitar. Every Six...

For gold-selling Memphis turbo-rockers Saliva, the past couple years of their decade-long career have brought an ocean swell of change. One or more members have had children, stopped drinking, ended longterm relationships, gotten married and/or left the group, and each instance has been accompanied by a new sense of clarity.

As a result, Saliva's fifth album Blood Stained Love Story resounds with a previously untapped level of passion, energy, sincerity and diversity, not to...
