Frusciante needs to explore the Major keys of life by Red Hot John (Steubenville, Ohio) 1 Stars

I am not going to go track by track to waste anyones time describing what I thought (think) about The Empyrean other than to give one piece of advice - Do not waste your money on this!!! This comes from a person who is a big fan of "stripped down" music that does not sound like a polish turd due to the technology of Pro Tools. I love music that sounds authentic and not adjusted. I have tried to get into John's music time and time again, however it just sounds like a bunch of kids from Pittsburgh trying to write and record on a Tascam 4 track from 1989. The album should also come with a suicide warning; or for that matter, razorblades. If there was some type of money back guarantee, I would be first in line.

I wanted to like it by Stephen Quinn (Providence, RI) 2 Stars

Really, I did. I read lots of reviews of Frusciante's other albums; I heard (I think) that he plays a lot with The Mars Volta, one of my favorites. I assumed that when he sloughed off the Chili Peppers, Frusciante would go wild. Um...no. This sounded like re-warmed Chili Peppers music to me--and they lost me about 3 albums ago. I was not excited; not entranced; not even interested. Total bummer.

I bought this album after i heard unreachable. (which is still my favorite song on the album) I've always loved the red hot chili peppers but i had never bought any of john's solo work. I mainly bought it because of RHCP. of the two songs i heard, (unreachable and central) i liked them a lot. When i first listened to the album i was a bit dissapointed by the other material. but as i listened more i liked it more. all the songs are very thought out and meaningful. absolutely no filler. even though i don't quite understand the concept I'm sure it makes sense to mr. Frusciante. all in all great album.

Empyrean is the bomb. It's probably his fullest album yet, combining elements of Curtains, To Record Water, and Shadows. Great stuff, and finally....song long songs!

Shadows Collide with People

Shadows Collide with People
by John Frusciante

It takes a lot to be known as the weird one out of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but for guitarist John Frusciante the title comes easy. He abruptly quit the band at the height of its popularity in 1992 to become a full-time drug addict, claimed to communicate with the fourth dimension, and released a couple of predictably loopy solo albums before returning in time to record the group's brilliant comeback discs, 1999's Californication and 2001's By The Way. The odd and esoteric music on Shadows...

To Record Only Water for Ten Days

To Record Only Water for Ten Days
by John Frusciante

Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante's third solo album isn't far removed from a demo. Taking the idea of a solo album literally, Frusciante is responsible for everything here, playing guitar over drum machines and adding occasional keyboards to the 15 songs, à la Bill Callahan's excellent Smog. The opener "Going Inside" offers promise that To Record will be an entertaining ride thanks to Frusciante's characteristically incandescent fretwork. The project is a little one-dimensional,...

Out of print in the U.S.! 1995 solo debut album from the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist. Seemingly two different projects on one release, the album features 12 listed tracks (Niandra Ladies) plus an additional 13 unlisted cuts (Usually Just A T-Shirt). Warner.
