Product Description
The fifteen-track Middle Cyclone is Neko Case's first release since 2006's Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, the best-reviewed and best-selling album of her career. Middle Cyclone was produced by Case with Darryl Neudorf and recorded in Tucson, Brooklyn, Toronto, and Vermont. It features Case backed by her core band - guitarist Paul Rigby, bassist Tom V. Ray, backing vocalist Kelly Hogan, multi-instrumentalist Jon Rauhouse, and drummer Barry Mirochnick - along with numerous guests including M. Ward, Garth Hudson, Sarah Harmer, and members of The New Pornographers, Los Lobos, Calexico, The Sadies, Visqueen, The Lilys, and Giant Sand, among others. In addition to twelve new songs written by Case, Middle Cyclone includes covers of 'Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth' by Sparks, and "Don't Forget Me" by Harry Nilsson.

Somewhere between dreaming and facing reality... by HappyHeart (Houston, TX) 5 Stars

I love this CD. Yes, even the frogs. I feel like NC really captures the feeling of being in a dream but understanding and accepting the harshness and disappointment of reality at the same time. I think that people who think this album is negative or despressing are only hearing the more superficial layers of these songs. Wholistically, this album is a journey through the human experience -- our desires, the pain we experience as a result of others, the pain we inflict on others, and our connectedness with the earth -- all wrapped up in a lovely metophoric bow. I'm so glad that Ms. Case is coming to Houston next month so that I can see her live!

This is a very good album from Neko. Given the title of Middle Cyclone, it makes me wonder why she is perched on top of a Mercury Cougar and not a Mercury Cyclone. Was that intentional or ... Neko is perched on the hood of a 1967 Mercury Cougar standard coupe. A couple of examples of the Mercury Cyclone are here: 1968: [...] 1970: [...] Oh...details...details... :-D

Neko WHY are YOU so un-happy? by J. Tucker (San Diego, CA United States) 1 Stars

I loved her last record - even went to see her live - I hated this record. I hated the single "maneater" just awful. Wishing Neko would find happiness in her music - instead, rank, dark, myopic music - only her die hard fans would give this awful record 5 stars COME ON - REALLY? Hardly worth ONE star - let alone five. Hopefully the next one will be more appealing - but I really don't think she cares.

not this one by D. Webb 1 Stars

I have ordered hundreds of CD's from Amazon and e-bay, both new and used. This is the first CD I ever received (new from Amazon) that had a large scratch on it making the last few songs unplayable. But to tell you the truth, the songs on the first 2/3 of the album were so dull that I didnt' ask for a replacement. I have enjoyed the previous studio and live work of Nico Case, but this one had no distinguished songs....there was a complete lack of energy. I just can't recommend this (at least the first 2/3 I heard).

Another great CD from Neko Case by David Townsend (Rochester NY) 5 Stars

Neko Case was one of those artists who grew on me. Her prior CD, Fox Confessor Brings The Flood was one of my favorites from 2006 and Middle Cyclone will easily rank as one of the best CDs from 2009. Her songs are beautiful, she has a beautiful unique sounding alternative country voice and she is a wonderful songwriter, her songs have a kind of timeless sound to them. "This Tornado Loves You" is one of the more pop sounding songs. Many of the songs are a little slower than her last CD and quieter than than her work in the New Pornographers. If you like her other music, you will like this CD.

Hold Time

Hold Time
by M. Ward

Although he's been compared to everyone from John Fahey to Tom Waits to Howe Gelb, with "Hold Time", it's clear that M. Ward, with his brilliant guitar playing and innate sense of melody, is one of those rare and special talents who defy comparison and compartmentalization. His deft guitar picking, bar room piano, and voice like drizzled honey make him a huge favorite of music critics and the focus of public praise from such disparate talents as Norah Jones and Oasis' Noel Gallagher.

The Decemberists' The Hazards Of Love, is the follow-up to the group's 2006 breakthrough, The Crane Wife, which NPR listeners voted their favorite album of the year. With their fifth full-length album, the Portland-based quintet of Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen solidifies its standing as one of the most innovative creative forces in music today.

In an age when singles rule and the death of the album has been pronounced by many, The Decemberists have...

Blacklisted (Original Recording Remastered)

Blacklisted (Original Recording Remastered)
by Neko Case

More subdued than its predecessor (FURNACE ROOM LULLABY), Neko Case's 2002 album, BLACKLISTED, is the singer/songwriter's first outing not co-billed to "Her Boyfriends." Backed by a cadre of intuitive musicians that includes multi-instrumentalist Joey Burns and drummer John Convertino (both of Calexico) and their Giant Sand peer Howe Gelb (on various keys), Case offers up a largely down-tempo set that's steeped in a dreamy, noir-like atmosphere. The haunting "Deep Red Bells" masterfully...
