CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 5.0 based on 1 review)
| What a disc ! by Etrisi 5 Stars November 11, 2009 Only by chance I discovered that outstanding CD by German soprano Simone Kermes (sometimes also called the "Leipzig Bartoli"). Kermes tackles a formidable coloratura cavalcade claiming nine world premiere recordings, ranging from rage arias such as Hasse's "Perche se tanti" to Popora's seductive "Morte amara". Extreme demands for range, colour and expression are accomplished in dazzling style. Former Bartoli advisor Claudio Osele employs light instrumental accompaniment with his excellent performing group "Le Musiche nove" - up to eight players - for this Vesuvian outpouring. For me Osele seems to have winkled out music of superior quality to Bartoli's selection "Sacrificium" that features music of the same period and many composers who can be heard also on Kermes' CD. A must buy !

"The age of the castratos was one of the most dazzling and remarkable in European music history. Seldom has there ever been such a complete fusion of sensuousness and splendor, form and content, poetry and music, and, above all, such a perfection of vocal virtuosity, as was achieved in the glory days of the Baroque era. The legendary art of the castratos continues to exert its fascination even today, and despite the great human sacrifice it exacted, a new assessment of this extraordinary...

Following her first, dazzling recital for Virgin Classics, Furore -- Arias by Handel, Joyce DiDonato turns to the composer whose heroines first brought her to international stardom: Gioacchino Rossini. "Is Joyce DiDonato the world's best Rossini singer?", asked the New York magazine Opera News after the American mezzo sang the finale of La Cenerentola at Carnegie Hall in January 2009. "That title certainly seemed hers by sovereign right," it continued; "Her phrasing was silky, her timbre rich...
