EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Album Description
UK digipak edition. 2009 release. Hailing from the UK, Sweden and Belgium Fanfarlo began as the bedroom project of lead singer/songwriter Simon Balthazar. His literate Pop songs bear more resemblance to the modern Folk sounds of Sufjan Stevens, Beirut and The Arcade Fire than the fashion-driven London scene where the band resides. Produced by Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), Resevoir employs an array of instruments to create each lushly arranged track, including saws, clarinets, cellos, mandolins, ukuleles and melocias. Though a sense of melancholy permeates Resevoire, Simon's heartfelt voice and each band member's uncompromised musicianship invites us to soar above it all and simply let go.

Will keep this short and just say that this was definitely one of the most wonderful, uplifting cd's of the year.( Think it was actually released in the UK last year). Should be on best of's lists everywhere. The best though that i can do is recommend this to music lovers on our planet and on others as well!

The Xx unique make-up is an inadvertent second nature marriage of 2009's urban/guitar tribes, in one corner fluttering new wave indebted reverberation, in the other, plumes of post-dubstep sub-bass and figuratively, their defining core of rich R&B vocal textures. The enveloping vocal partnership of Romy and Oliver is one that would've dropped-jaws in any decade this century, and set amidst a shivering soundscape of beats and plucks, their bedroom-reared concrete-soul is being justly heralded as...

Built on the powerful songwriting of Christopher Owens and the ethereal production of Chet "JR" White, Girls recorded Album in a variety of bedrooms and rehearsal studios in their adopted hometown, San Francisco. The resulting 12 tracks are the perfect San Fran summer record, evoking a narcotic, sunny afternoon in Dolores Park, yet promising the eventual hangover of summer's departure. Album is self-described as "honest, loose, ethereal, obnoxious and perfect," it is a sincere tribute to the...

Hospice
by Antlers

Beginning three years ago as a singer-songwriting project for PETER SILBERMAN, The Antlers have since expanded into a full three-piece, including powerhouse drummer Michael Lerner and the layer-lathering, multi-instrumentalist, Darby Cicci. Appropriately enough, "Hospice?s ten distinct chapters resonate on debilitating sonic and lyrical levels, from the hypnotic harp and tension-ratcheting build of "Two" to the singor- sink choruses of "Bear" and the speaker-rattling peaks of "Sylvia". ...

by The Avett Brothers

There is no harmony like brotherly harmony. Something indelible in the weave of voices and play of sensibilities is stamped into the fraternal DNA and also stems from a lifetime of shared experiences. You can hear it in classic brother acts across the musical spectrum, from the Louvin Brothers to the Everly Brothers and on down the decades through the Wilson brothers (Beach Boys), the Davies brothers (Kinks), the Allman Brothers and even the Brothers Gibb (a.k.a., the Bee Gees).
