This is an excellent way to help kinesthetic learners master the structures of simple and complex molecules. Boys particularly enjoy the snapping, twisting, turning and experimentation. Letting them put the parts together and then getting them to name what they constructed randomly often brings the, "Aha!!" moment. Requiring students to construct a molecule from the written formula is also instructive. I recommend obtaining extra carbon and hydrogen atoms for complex hydrocarbons and carbohydrates.

Student molecule kit by Randal V. Martini (Atlanta, GA USA) 4 Stars

Received the student kit and decided to order the teacher version too. The student version is mostly about organics, lots of carbon and hydrogen, with a few others like oxygen. The teacher version has many more color coded parts for other atoms, like sulfur and phosphorus, not included in student kit. We use it at our company to explain technical points about monomers in plastics. But plastics molecules can get big so I need more parts. I also take it home to explain things to the kids. They grasp things quickly in "3D", like chemistry "LEGOS" --more fun than flat drawings. Quick guide inside box illustrates many molecules you can build and the basic principles of nomenclature. Leaves you wanting more when you run out of parts. Impress your friends. Build a model of something common and keep it around on your dest for a while. Then try something else. They won't fall apart easily by themselves--which is cool. Modeling concepts become easy, however molecules snap togeter with some effort. Moderately hard to disassemble certain pieces, so it comes with a tool for prying these "close" bonds apart.

I bought this thing so I can teach my younger siblings about chemistry. I hardly have time these days to whip this kit out and play with it, but it's still a good thing to have nevertheless. This kit was shipped out with the quickness. Thumbs up for their quick service!

The Ninth Edition of Organic Chemistry continues Solomons-Fryhle's tradition of excellence in teaching and preparing students for success in the organic classroom and beyond.

Students are often overwhelmed by the early rigors of organic chemistry. Solomons-Fryhle prepares students for these early rigors by introducing acids & bases--topics they know from general chemistry--early, followed by chapters on structure and stereochemistry. Next, a discussion of ionic reactions gives...
