This pointer was great for about two months. Then it quit. I tried new batteries. That wasn't the problem. It just doesn't work any more.

I purchased two of these as gifts with the expectation to use them for astronomy. The price was too good to ignore even with the questionable reviews. The first laser that I turned on was immediately very bright. I cannot estimate the power output because I do not have enough experience with green lasers; but I believe it is close to 5mW. The second laser was substantially dimmer than the first. After the 30sec warm-up it got brighter, though still clearly lower output than the first one. Outside the difference was clear too. I had trouble using the dimmer laser for pointing out stars. The 30sec warm-up each time it's turned on is extremely annoying -- note the instructions specify a 30sec warm-up is required. Also, even when it got brighter, sometimes I had trouble seeing it and pointing to the stars. Though, I should clarify that I was testing this in an area with a lot of light pollution; I believe it should be okay in darker skies more favorable for observing. I'm going to keep both because for

I use it for my presentations, and the color being green for right now picks up people's attention. My kids use it to play with the dog, but must constantly warn against flashing towards faces. Great for pointing out stars. The kids can follow the direction much better with the visible pointer
