EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The PetSafe Wireless Fence pet containment system is a revolutionary concept that provides the safest, simplest form of pet containment ever. Plug in the transmitter somewhere inconspicuous in your home. The transmitter emits a 17.5 kHz radio signal around your home. Your pet wears a lightweight receiver collar that "listens" for the signal. While the collar is receiving the signal, your dog is free to run and play in your yard. When he approaches the boundary of the signal area, he receives a warning beep. If your dog does not return, he receives a static correction which is startling but not harmful. With a little simple training, your dog will quickly learn his boundaries. The training of your pet is a key element with the PetSafe Wireless Fence. Follow the easy instruction and training manual that is included. |

| Hunter the yellow lab learned in just hours!!!! by M. Wilson (NH) 5 Stars November 18, 2009 I ordered this Friday, received Monday afternoon. My daughter and I set up the boundaries and flagged it, about 65 feet(5.5) that afternoon. As I live in NH it was getting dark out about 4:30 so we did not have much time for our first session. I set the collar on beep only mode. Hunter proceeded to walk over the flags and pull them out of the ground. The next day I moved the level up to the first shock level, no affect on dog. I tightened the collar and moved it up one more, second shock mode. This had an affect. He gave out a yelp, scared he bolted back to me. He got shocked 2-3 timesand that was it, he learned real fast!!!It has been 2 whole days now and he goes out in the yard with me and no leash. He stays back from the boundaries and cannot be coaxed so far, even with a treat. As soon as he hears the beeping he quickly turns back to the yard. This is a dog that would bolt as soon as the door was cracked and run to the neighbors, with us chasing behind. I took him out about 6-8 times 15 min. each and its wonderful. He will play fetch and run and never tries to leave. I turned to static shock back down to the first level as he stops with the beep or even before it goes off. I could not be happier. The front of the yard has a slight hill and I was worried about it working but it does. Awesome product. My lab is 3.5 yrs old and I wish I had done it sooner!!!
| | WORKS AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!!!! by G. F. THOMAS (Lebanon,mo) 5 Stars November 18, 2009 Living in the country with three dogs and trying to keep them in the yard was nearly impossible. I thought about a chain link fence, but have a lot of rock under ground and I do mean rock!!! We decided to try this unit instead of the wire one again because of the rock.
It took about three days with the worst of my dogs,a beagle that love to roam to get her full attention and she has been in the yard since. My other two a Cairn Terrier and a curbstone sitter seem to catch on faster.
There may be certain things that interrupt the signal but not as far as we have seen. When my Beagle see's a Deer as close as 40 feet from the bounty and won't go after it,I can defiantly say it works very well for me.
As far as recommending it ,I would highly say yes!!!!!
| | The Invisible Fence by Alex (Chicago, IL) 5 Stars November 13, 2009 After debating to buy or not, I decided to buy since my dogs got out of the property(fenced in, but they jump real high). Many people out there will say it's cruel and that this product should be banned, but let me tell you my story. My dogs got out last winter with one in Animal Control and the other hiding in a corner after getting hit by a car. It took me 4 hours to find her and a scare. She almost lost her life since her lungs colapsed. After 10 days at the Vet hospital(lucky me a Vet college with full facilities was around since the 24hr hospital didn't have all the needed facilities) and a $10k bill with four months of rehab. my darling pup is alive and well. It's been almost a year since the great escape and my dogs have not left the property or attempted to jump the fence.
Now to get to the actual review, My dogs were afraid to go out and take care of business since when they went too far out they would get buzzed, then again they were also attempting to jump the fence. It took me a while, but I no longer use them as they respect the boundries set by the invisible fence. Once in a blue moon I will put the collars on them to remind them to respect the fence.
Many of you may think it's cruel, but think about my story. Is it worth losing the life of your loved one. My dogs are like my kids and I wouldn't wish anyone what my wife and I went through when our dog was hit by a car.
Goodluck on your Decision, if you buy, you won't regret it considering the consequences.
| | Very Easy to Set Up by J. Whit (NE) 4 Stars November 05, 2009 I live on an acreage and would not want to fence in an area just for the dog. I set up the fence in less than an hour. It took our dog about a week to really get the hang of it. Now he doesn't really need to wear the collar to be effective. Two reasons I didn't five star rate this. The range is not great enough for our needs and I would like the warning beep to sound sooner. The correction triggers right after the warning beep. Now he stays a good distance from the flags even when his ball rolls near them. My boundary is not perfectly round as our ground is not completely flat. Objects, like a garage full of cars, seem to reduce the range. Having said that, this unit has been really helpful and worked as it was advertised.
| | Great product, but heads up... by B. Gerard (Louisville, KY United States) 4 Stars October 31, 2009 We bought this product several weeks ago and have been very pleased so far. We followed the training directions early on, but our dog escaped and learned the hard way about what happens. This set us back a little as he became unnerved about even going outside. He has since gotten over that and is doing very well. He has "tested" the fence a couple of times, but never gets too far before turning around.
One warning...the instruction manual says the collar can tell the difference between the dog going out of range and a power outage. In our experience, this is not true! We had a power outage and the collar went off - it was not pretty. For this reason alone, it is a good idea to take the collar off anytime the dog is left alone. That being said, for the cost and ease of installation, this is a great product so far and I'd highly recommend it over the much more costly and no more effective in ground system.
