EDITORIAL REVIEWS

Product Description
Light rays that are reflected by any surface become polarized and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. PL (Linear Polarizing) and PL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters have the same effect, but it is important that you choose the correct version for your camera. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot.

Really good one to start with for beginner photographer by artpixels (Dallas, TX) 5 Stars

I am a beginner and I followed exactly what many has said about using the cir polarizing filters and I got really stunning sky and water colors. This is my first filter and I really love it. This is easy to fix on your current lens, I have a Rebel XS with 18-55mm with diameter 58mm. I am going to experiment with this filter over and over again and write more reviews. But I would strongly recommend this filter for beginners.

Noticeable polarization effect by S. Endo (Seattle, WA USA) 4 Stars

I have had no problem with this product. I'm a beginner, and not too knowledgeable. But, I found that it does work on changing reflections and filtering them. Affordable, and goes well with my Nikon 35mm f1.8 lens.

BEWARE! by L. Dunnett (S. F. Bay Area) 1 Stars

If you purchase this product from DBROTH, you are receiving a "grey market" item. The filter I received was not a true circulating filter. It was comprised of only one ring, even though the packaging clearly states it to be "circulating." DBROTH was unwilling to exchange it, because I had it a little more than one month-due to extenuating circumstances. I was forced to call HOYA and they determined DBROTH is not an authorized dealer and is purchasing this product from China or somewhere outside the HOYA factory (Japan) to cut costs.

Wish I had bought the better polarizer, this one doesn't do as much as the older smaller one I had for another camera.

Falls apart. by R. S. Grabinger (Centennial, CO USA) 1 Stars

I placed this on my camera. Used if for two days, great pics. BUT, I was removing it and it fell apart, the filter ring, the wire, and the polarizer -- all came apart. Here I am, out of the country and I had to buy another and have it shipped for $35.00. Do not buy this.

This filter is used for photography with infrared films. Infrared film is also sensitive to ultraviolet rays and the shorter wavelengths of the visible spectrum so it is necessary to filter out all but the infrared rays. R72 passes only infrared rays above 720nm. It is often used in crime detection, medical photography, detection of distribution of vegetation, etc.
