Product Description
Opteka specializes in manufacturing special optical devices for the past several years, would like to take this opportunity to introduce a newly developed product called the "HD² Infrared X-Ray Effect See-Through Multi-Coated Filter". This filter makes it possible for you to see images that are normally invisible to the human eye. It sounds like science-fiction but it isn't; this fantastic new product has been developed using the most highly advanced optical technologies available. This filter will filter out 99% of light seen by the naked eye only allowing infrared light through so that technically the naked eye can see 100% black when the filter is in place. Multi-coating prevents light reflection, ghost light...etc, making images clearer and sharper. On your digital camcorder, turn the "Nightshot" function on - the naked eye cannot pick up the high contrast black, so with the infrared filter and Nightshot combination, for example, it will help you see in the images provided, that we 'accidentally' spilt some permanent ink on this document and the text is now impossible to read. However, when we attached the filter to our Sony 'TR250PK' camcorder, the writing is clearly legible through the ink - thus the x-ray effect! The Opteka IR Filter is also able to see through some types of clothes, for example, thin clothes, tight clothes, sundresses, swimsuits, sunglasses, and so forth. Be aware that this means that you can see a person's body or underwear through the external garment. In other words, this filter allows you to "see through" someone's clothes. You will be amazed with the power if you take the time to experiment and experience its capabilities for yourself. If you already have a digital camcorder with the Nightshot feature and are interested in experimenting with the X-Ray effect, this is by far the least expensive method, giving you the results you are looking for. Just screw on the filter, switch on the 'Night' feature, and you are ready to go!

IR filter by Alan R. Bell 5 Stars

Filter is very cool. Took me quite a while to figure out the best setting with the camera to get a good shot, but after I did, it is great.

Despite the misleading description, this IR filter is fun, and does work. by S. J. Anderson (Orlando, FL USA) 4 Stars

The Opteka R72 IR filter is a need little add-on. Unless you get VERY into infrared photography, you probably won't pull it out for too many shots. But it is very capable for what it is. However, for people who are not aware of what it's like to take these shots, the manufacturer description can seem a bit misleading. I know it was a pretty big exaggeration ahead of time, but could easily see how others would buy into the hype. For starters, you aren't going to be able to simply attach this to any camera, and take pictures through the clothes of attractive young ladies. As the amount of light (specifically near-infrared/infrared) that gets through is MUCH less than of an unfiltered lens, your exposure times have to be substantially longer than under normal conditions. For example, during regular daylight, you will find yourself doing exposure times of 15-20 seconds or higher. But like stated earlier, as long as you know what you are getting into, this will open up a fun, new aspect of photography for anyone who wants to try something a little different.

Take your photography to the next level by Daniel Neve (SL,UT USA) 5 Stars

This is an amazing filter that will unlock a totally new world for your personal photography collection. I have read about a lot of people saying it won't work on their camera and I have a Nikon D50 and a Cannon XSi and it works fine on both. You just have to be sure that you adjust your exposure time and your f stop to allow enough light in. However make sure you realize that the exposure time will be long (around 3 seconds with appropriate f-stop and ISO 200, to 30 seconds) so a tripod will be needed. Unless you remove your built in IR filter which will essentially turn the camera into an IR only device. For the ultimate IR pictures shoot in RAW and play around in photoshop it's incredible. Take your time play around with F-stop, ISO, exposure time, and White Balance settings and get ready for amazing pictures.

i'm sure it would work fine IF... by Joshua B. Bradley (johnson city, tn, usa) 3 Stars

I'M SURE THIS PRODUCT WOULD WORK FINE IF MY CAMERA HAD A FUNCTIONING IR OUTPUT. OTHERWISE THIS ITEM IS USELESS TO ME. HOWEVER, I USUALLY BUY MY ITEMS FROM THIS SELLER. THEY ALWAYS SEND THE THINGS I ORDER ON TIME, IF NOT AHEAD OF TIME. JUST DO NOT EXPECT TO READ THROUGH INK, OR HAVE EVERY LITTLE STRAIGHT BOY'S DREAM OF SEEING THROUGH THE GIRL NEXT DOOR'S CHLOTHES, UNLESS YOU HAVE AN IR FUNCTION ON YOUR DEVICE. I LOANED IT TO A FRIEND, AND SHE CLAIMS IT WORKS GREAT, BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN THE PHOTOS TAKEN FOR MYSELF... YET.

Good IR filter, bad brand by Cano Alfaro Manuel Francisco 3 Stars

The Filter works good for a camera with the function of night vision, but i really don't recommend the opteka brand. The first day i use this filter, the crystal assemblage brakes down. El filtro de la cámara funciona muy bien para cámaras con función de fotografía nocturna -Panasonic Lumix FZ7s-
