| Works good until it dies. by Robert 1 Stars July 14, 2009 I understand that these thing degrade over time with use. However, I used this thing maybe a handful of times (two battery changes) and the thing died completely. I thought it would last a lot longer than this.
| | Works Well by W. Mitchell (Virginia) 5 Stars July 27, 2008 I've had this pointer for months now and it works great. It's very bright - can even be used in daylight to some extent. Green shows up so much better than red.
I agree that the pattern heads are somewhat useless but I didn't buy this laser for them. If you just want a reliable laser for astronomy, general use or even just to drive your dog nuts, this is a good buy.
| | Piece of junk by David Downing (Tonopah, NV) 1 Stars August 26, 2007 Lasted 5-minutes and died. Changed batteries 3 times to be sure it wasn't a power problem.
Too great a hastle with Amazon to attempt an exchange so will just toss it in garbage can.
Isn't anything made in the USA anymore?
I suppose this review will not make Amazon's guidelines.
| | The better of two by Allen Oster (NorCal) 5 Stars June 17, 2007 I am quite satisfied with the brightness of this laser pointer. I have also owned the "Green Laser Pointer Astronomy Grade Laser with Bonus Optical Cloth in Blue" pointer and the beam was barely visible for sky pointing. Plus the button was hard to press. With this laser, the beam is clearly visible, even in my light-polluted city and before my eyes are adjusted to the dark. And the button feels OK.
That being said, it's not all coming up roses. The pattern heads don't look anything like that picture. I'm willing to bet that picture was generated by MS-Paint. I'll try to get my own picture up, but I can't seem to upload anything.
Anyway, I recommend this product.
| | Green Laser Pointer by B. E. Sturgeon 5 Stars January 09, 2007 Green lasers are the way to go! A am a chemistry professor and after being so amazed by the beauty (brightness) of this laser i looked into why this was so bright. Most laser pointers are 5 mW, so why is the green so bright compared to the red? The answer is that your eye (and other creatures, like cats) are much more sensitive to the 532 nm wavelength (green). The red laser pointer at 650 nm stimulates only one of your 4 vision cell types (3 color - "cones", 1 black and white - "rod") in your eye. Even beyond that, this simulation of the "red" cone is only minor. The 532 nm wavelength (green) simulated the 2 of the 3 cone-types and the rods. The brightness is a result of our vision systems sensitivity.
As far as the quality of this laser, it seems to be holding up after 2 months of vigorous use (me and the kids).
