| perfect for camper/hikers by D. Tennimon (Oregon) 5 Stars October 07, 2009 Have yet to use, but I already know its going to taste nasty. What do you expect its iodine. If you want fresh clean water the dig a whole 10 feet from the side of the river bellow the water level, collect that water run it through some shirts or other means of filtration boil it up and enjoy. This is much easier but I keep it for a survival item. Thankfully I haven't had to use yet, but it purify 500 gallons of water!
| | not used yet - very small quantity by T. Perraut (Bellevue, WA USA) 4 Stars June 20, 2009 I did not use it yet but I was surprised at the tiny quantity of crystals in the vial.
Either I got one that does not have the normal quantity, or a little goes a very long way.
| | Purely something to have around by Willie D. Book Wormie (Seattle, WA United States) 5 Stars March 27, 2009 I have yet to use the Polar Pure in serious situations, but I do believe strongly in iodine water purification for all non tested drinking water applications. Having use a couple of water filters for extended backpacking it is sort of apple and oranges. For a day hike, emergency situations, or especially for foreign travel I would consider it a requirement ,
| | Great taste, great protection, compact & convenient by shri (Redmond, WA USA) 5 Stars September 09, 2008 Our group used Polar Pure in the Boundary Waters and Quetico on a week-long canoe trip. At first, everyone was squeamish about using iodine and so we spent a lot of time pumping water with a conventional filter. But the filter leaked and so some of us decided maybe we'd try to survive the awful taste of iodine in the water. Color me surprised - the water tasted fine. It was convenient - just dip your water bottle over the side of the canoe to fill, add a capful of Polar Pure solution, shake, and wait 20 minutes. It tasted great. Could I taste the difference between Polar Pure and filtered water? Sure, on a side-by-side taste test I could tell a slight difference. But it was so much more compact and convenient than the water filter that I switched to Polar Pure for the rest of the week. Now I'm going to get bottles for the rest of the family so that we can take it on our hikes and trips in the Cascades and Olympics. A small bottle in a backpack and we'll never run out of water on those hot grinding switchback trails.
| | Great investment! by Christopher C. Cantwell 5 Stars May 27, 2008 Backpackers, outdoorsmen, survivalists, campers, all should own a bottle of polar pure. It is the best investment in water disinfection you could ever make. One bottle will last a lifetime, or 20,000 liters. Need I say more? It makes a fine addition to you first aid supplies as well. If you need more Iodine, you just fill the bottle with water and wait an hour. The convenient temperature bar on the side tells you how many capfuls of iodine you need to disinfect your water. As a survivalist and camper I think every household should have at least one bottle of polar pure in case of a water emergency. I also suggest a good hand pump filter.
