CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 6 reviews)
| Cool at last..... by i'll try anything (ohio) 5 Stars August 04, 2009 I just purchased the Chilipad so these are initial reactions. I read all the reviews and found them mixed. Either loved or hated and a waste of money. I called the company directly and the customer service rep assured me that they honor the 90 day money back guarantee. So I ordered. It took over three weeks to get, but I think it was worth it. The first night I found it loud, bright and did not fit under the bed. It made the room HOT. It is the first time I had ever gotten up in the night and found a HUGE difference in temp between the bedroom and the hall. I would say atleast 6-8 degrees. So the pumps throw off a lot of heat. Deciding that between that and the brightness of the panel lighting up the room to much, we had to alter the application. Our bed is on a wall that has a closet to the dressing room on the other side. We drilled two holes (KING has dual pumps) through the wall and placed the pump on the other side of the wall in this closet. The tubes were long enough to comfortably reach the pumps. WALLA, the problems solved. The remotes work through the wall, no more heating up the bedroom, no bright lights, and no noise. I found that my side cools so well that I can't set it on the lowest number - 46 degrees. We had adjusted the thermostat in the house to 76 degrees (our daytime temperature) when we usually had to lower it at night to 70-72 to be comfortable. I was SHOCKED when I woke up too cold, when I had full covers on. I HAVE BEEN SO HOT THE LAST FEW YEARS - I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM TO HAVE A COOL BED. I LOVE A COOL BED. Previously, I was waking up trying to find a cool spot. Not an easy task when you have a partner in the bed. I am happy we were creative enough to solve the problems and now have the perfect solution to being cool in the night. Also, warm without an electric blanket in the winter will be a plus for my husband. (I'm not cold in the winter) I don't like the idea of the electric fields in an electric blanket around me either. THANK YOU CHILIPAD FOR THE BEST SOLUTION TO A HOT BED. I am your biggest fan so far. The three year warranty gives me peace of mind. We spent $600, so $200 a year to be cool at night is a real bargain. If it lasts longer, even better. Give it a try, confirm the 90 day warranty and buy directly from the company. I think they will honor their return policy if you don't like it. [...]
UP DATE
Nothing but cool nights and great sleep for me baby.....since I made the modifications, I can't tell you how much i love it. It works beautifully. I had to turn it up to about 62 because I was actually too cold in a room that is 76 degrees. UNHEARD OF!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Now, if it gives me 5 wonderful years, I will be extraordinarily satisfied with my purchase.
| | The ChiliPad rocks! by J. R. Platek (San Francisco, CA) 5 Stars July 27, 2009 My hot flashes started about four years before menopause, and let me tell you i had tried everything: herbal supplements, Wicking Pajamas, Pillow Inserts, and I even bought a new mattress. My poor husband was FREEZING and I was SWEATING while we fought about fans and the temperature of the thermostat. But other than Estrogen Treatments (Which can be dangerous... so I hear ... ) nothing was beating my Hot Flashes until the ChiliPad. Now both my husband and I can sleep comfortably.
| | Does not Cool below 55 deg by W. Munro (San Jose, CA) 2 Stars April 23, 2009 I bought this pad primarily for the cooling capability, which is specified as "down to 46 degrees". (Apparently, the older models were only down to 68 degrees.)
However, in practice, the best I have ever been able to achieve was 55 degrees. This was after leaving the unit on for over 4 hours (without me being on the bed, which I expect would warm it up more). And this was in a room with an ambient temperature of around 75 deg.
So, this pad has helped me sleep a little bit cooler ... but I don't think I would have purchased it for this price knowing that it only cooled to 55.
| | A year later, very happy with it by Mark H. Hoskins (San Clemente, CA) 5 Stars February 16, 2009 I've owned one of these for about a year. The big selling point is of course the cooling feature, since warming a bed with an electric blanket would be far cheaper. If it lasts for a couple of years, it will probably pay for itself since air conditioning is far less effective than having cool water circulating below you. For that reason, this may be considered a "green" product, since it takes more energy to cool a houseful of air than to cool the two cups of water running through this.
Pros: Energy savings, two sides of the bed can be different temperatures, built-in timer can turn it off before you freeze at 3 am, more comfortable than an electric fan, remote control.
So-so: It's about as loud as a box fan at medium speed. I actually like falling asleep to such a sound, others may not. Maybe keeping it under the bed would muffle it some.
Cons: Pretty darned expensive.
I actually found out about this product from one of the social news sites, it might have been digg. I was a bit scared to buy it since there were few reviews, but I took the plunge and it has been a great purchase. A cool bed in the summer is something I've missed since giving up my old waterbed 20 years ago.
What I don't understand is why this isn't a top-seller... it's such a simple concept.
| | First Chilly night's sleep in a very long time by Chili Tech 5 Stars December 01, 2008 As submitted by email to Chili Technology:
My husband and I have argued for years about the ideal temperature for our room at night. He stays cold and I typically have found it impossible to be cold enough. The problem only intensified as I reached the age of 50 and began to have hot flashes. In addition we recently bought one of the popular viscoelastic beds. Once your sleeping spot encounters body heat -the mattress absorbs and holds on to the temperature. This made sleeping almost impossible for me. As soon as I heard about Chilipad I ordered one immediately. Chilipad was easy to order and it arrived well packaged in several days. Setting up the product took less than 15 minutes. Even before turning it on the mattress felt more comfortable. Although you cannot feel the channels beneath the cover it made the bed seem slightly cushioned. I dialed in the lowest setting at 68F degrees and the bed became noticeably cooler in minutes. The first night amazingly I did not wake up at 2 AM burning hot. That was great. Unfortunately a few hours later I became too cool but was not awake enough to adjust the temperature even though it is easy to do with the remote. The next night I set the temperature higher. This time I did wake up at 2AM but there was an important difference. The mattress did not hold on to my body heat- and I quickly went back to sleep. Over the next few nights I was able to fine-tune the system further. The Chilipad has a great feature that allows you to turn the unit on or off at a specified time. I found turning the unit off several hours before my waking time was the answer for me. One must not forget that Chilipad can warm as well as cool. This has been great for my husband. We find we can sleep in a cooler room and I am hoping this will lower our heating bills. Although I have most often used the cooling feature of Chilipad, I have also used the warm setting to preheat my side for a short while before getting into bed. It is a luxury to get into a warm bed on a cold night. It is especially a luxury to then be able to lower the temperature when I am warm enough! In conclusion, the Chilipad is a unique system that will finally allow you to fully adjust the temperature for your side of the bed. It is easy to use and it works as it promises. The only negative is perhaps how much it costs. Is it worth the price? I certainly think so- and if you find that it doesn't work for you -it can be easily returned within 90 days. The company says and I agree- with Chilipad "Your best night's sleep is a few degrees away."
