EDITORIAL REVIEWS | Product Description The Astronomer's Laser Flashlight.
This is the tool preferred by astronomers at the Palomar Observatory that combines the unmatched brightness of a green laser pointer with a high-intensity flashlight. The 532nm green laser pointer is 20x brighter than lesser red laser pointers and provides an unmistakable beam of light that appears to reach the stars--ideal for identifying distant objects, whether a constellation or a mountain summit. The device also has three white LEDs for bright, direct light, and a red LED for ambient light capable of three levels of brightness, so you won't disturb fellow star gazers or a driver while you consult a map. The included three AAA batteries provide 20 hours of operation. Anodized aluminum construction. Includes 15" neck lanyard, belt pouch, and padded storage box. 5 3/4" L x 1" Diam. (5 1/4 oz.) |

| Short of expectations by Wilbur D. Wong (Richmond, CA USA) 2 Stars October 20, 2009 The concept of this tool is excellent and would exactly meet my needs, however:
The description includes the statement "This is the tool preferred by. . . . " "THE TOOL" should be interpreted by this type of tool, not this one specifically. Indeed there are a couple or more other products which look virtually identical on the market. This is a clone, which doesn't even live up to it's description such the three levels of brightness for example, the red is only one level. Some of the others on the market have the same description and actually incorporate these features. These others start at $100, twice the price as this one, it would be forgiveable if this one actually had what this claims but unfortunately the one I received not only didn't fulfill the expectation, it only worked for about an hour, than started to malfunction and than operated intermittently even after I put in fresh new batteries that I substituted for the included ones. I suggest that if you really want a device of this type to consider a Hotech or maybe a Z-bolt (in that order in my opinion). The one I received, I sent back, I would have been pleased at this price if it really performed.
