| I want one too! by J. Brown (TX) 5 Stars November 11, 2009 i bought this for my toddler son's room. He loves the planets! i used them as a mobile over his crib, they are very entertaining. Before i had them hanging, he would roll and chase the glowing planet all around his room before bed. he thought it was the funniest thing ever!
| | Ripped Off by W. Cummings (Marlton,NJ) 1 Stars April 20, 2009 The product was very heavy and cumbersome for hanging from the thin thread supplied in the package. also two people were needed to put it together in an effort to avoid the thread tangling once the balls are attached.Definitely not worth the money!!!
| | OK product better price at WM by John Q Public (Wisconsin) 4 Stars January 07, 2009 Kids had Jupiter broken before I got the planets hung up (glued it back together ok though). Better than cardboard cutouts. Only glow for about a minute. Overall I'm satisfied with this product. Good way to learn about the planets. Kids enjoy the process of hanging them and learning about them. WM had it for six bucks cheaper fyi.
| | Good for Grandchildren by M. Johnston (Texas) 4 Stars January 06, 2009 My 8 year old grandson is interested in the Universe and wanted "the planets". He was overjoyed with this gift and so was his father who helped put it together. It didn't require overhauling the overhead light. It is a great educational toy.
| | You don't need a sun! by Mom of Girls (Atlanta, GA) 5 Stars November 10, 2008 I used the light in the middle of my daughter's room as the "sun". I then spiraled the planets around the sun. Mercury is just beyond the reach of the ceiling fan; then each planet was just a little further away than the previous one. I put the first four planets fairly close together (as they are supposed to be), then put a bigger gap between the rest, and it worked out with Neptune being the furthest away, almost to the wall. We put up Pluto too, but sometimes Pluto is closer to the sun than Neptune, so it works out.
It was time consuming to put up, but I had no problem getting the tacks to stay in the ceiling. As far as durability goes, it's been in her room for several years now... we've never had a problem. No tacks have ever fallen out.
Yes, the stars are cheap and not worth it. They do sell just the planets for half the price, but it says you only get putty... I like the tacks. Some of the planets glow brighter than others, depending on the color.
My daughter (now 9) absolutely loves it, and it's not some cutesy thing that she's going to outgrow. My 6 year old wants them in her room now too. I like that they are on the ceiling, versus a standing mobile that's in my way.
