CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.5 based on 3 reviews)
| It was an ordering error by T. Proffitt (Jonesborough,TN) 3 Stars January 10, 2010 Apparently Mrs. Santa Clause got clicking happy on the shopping cart and ordered this one by mistake. Oh well...I also ordered the 4D. All things being equal...pay the extra few dollars for the 4D model. This one is sturdy enough if you put it out of reach of everyone and everything. Sometimes the fins fall off....the dorsal fin is MIA right now.
And it gives me the feel of 8th grade science class, when the books and equipment are 20 years behind the times.

| | Shark Anatomy Model: Strengths and Weaknesses by Alexander Antithanos (Syracuse, New York) 4 Stars August 31, 2008 This model shark is a great value for the price I paid for it. One can learn a great deal from putting together this model. The model is easy to assemble. I put it together from scratch in 10 minutes. The pieces are separably durable. The model looks great. This toy is fun.
Suggested improvements:
1) Please improve the fasteners. The model tends to unravel. Some pieces fall off. The fins fall off, the two-piece spine tends to split in two, and the outside tends to fall off. I am afraid of the fasteners breaking during the reassembly, although this hasn't happened yet.
2) Correct the color scheme for blood. The deoxygenated blood in the model is red, while the oxygenated blood in the model is blue. The usual convention in anatomical diagrams is the other way around. Therefore, the heart and blood vessels leading to it should be blue. The blood vessels coming from the gills should be red.
3) The next edition of the booklet could mention that the bull shark is the most dangerous shark alive. The booklet that comes with it claims the great white is the shark that attacks humans the most. The shark that attacks humans the most is the bull shark. The bull shark is by far the most dangerous shark alive.
The first three improvements are most important because they address straight out inaccuracies. The following recommendations are of secondary importance.
4) The model could be larger for public display.
5) This shark shows only one row of teeth per jaw. The great white shark exposes about 3 rows per jaws and has 4 rows more under the gum. Although you won't show all 7 rows, maybe you can suggest them visually somehow.
6) A scale could be drawn on the platform to show the great white shark is about 20 feet long.
7) Show a few gill arch skeletal elements. The model now shows the gills, but not the skeletal elements that support them.
8) The booklet should emphasize that the shark is a cartilaginous fish.
