| GREAT toy, but delicate by Word of Mouth 5 Stars January 09, 2010 It really flies like a bird. It is not thrown like a glider, it has rubber-band powered flapping wings. But, it is delicate. Your kids, cats and dogs will love it for the short time that it remains undamaged - buy 2. The amazement is worth the cost.
| | Lots of fun! by Virginia L. Sasse (Gatesville, Texas) 5 Stars January 08, 2010 I ordered this toy for my 53 year old brother. It was well packaged and came in time for Christmas. All of us had fun with it. It is very neat to watch, and it provided hours of entertainment. Thanks.
| | Has potential, but disappointed by scimom (Pennsylvania, USA) 2 Stars November 01, 2009 As a science teacher and mother, I was excited to get and help my young daughter with this after she saw one at a recent science show and wanted a Tim Bird. However, the crank is harder to wind than it should be, the wing paint scrapes off easily, even after the first flight, and our Tim Bird did not come with a spare rubberband drive mechanism as claimed. The wing came unglued from the frame after 3 flights; hopefully our re-gluing it will work. A little more field testing and refining before selling would make this educational toy more fun and less stressful.
| | This Toy is Brilliant Fun! by T. TURTON (USA) 5 Stars July 16, 2009 Schilling's Original Tim Bird is an ingenious Ornithopter (a flying machine that creates lift by flapping) and a really fun toy.
The wind-up mechanism and design of the bird is beautifully simple, and will fascinate kids and adults of any age. The actual flight of the bird (fully wound up) is fairly short, but it glides well - experiment with flying the bird from a hilltop.
The only drawback of the Original Tim, is that its fairly delicate, though no more so than most wind-up aircraft/gliders/kites. The paint on the top of the wings began to scrape off right after the first crash-landing - though the wing-struts wingss and fuselage seem very robust.
Brilliant fun for all ages.
| | cheap fun by Anita Oconnell (Los Angeles) 4 Stars January 06, 2009 My husband remembered these little birds from his childhood. They are surprisingly durable. They are low-cost, low-tech fun. A bit of practice is needed to optimize flight. Best outdoors where there is more room. Thrilling for children, adults, (and our beagle!) alike.
