| Too much work for kids (Which means you have to do it) by Leonel Benedicto (New York, NY USA) 2 Stars July 13, 2009 This toy is a flimsy piece of garbage. It's not at all realistic. You have to put everything together (more pieces than I thought). Then you have to deal with the pain of actually trying to paint each individual planet (some of which are smaller than a dime). Can you imagine having to use water paint (which runs badly) on a small little piece of plastic? Try using more than one color on something that tiny. You end up getting a glob of paint. Also very small parts, not recommended for people under 120 years old!
Look for a better model, I certainly will. Cause the one I ordered is already in some landfill somewhere.
| | Not what you think... by Jem (Riverside County, CA USA) 1 Stars May 17, 2009 I purchased this item for my son for his birthday. He has shown a great interest in science (planets, stars, etc.) Thought this would be a great starter kit - he is 8. Unfortunately, we got what we paid for. This item must be assembled and painted by the purchaser. When we opened the box we were disappointed to see that all of the planets including the Sun were all "male" ends. We could not put it together and the fact that you have to paint it yourself was a bummer. Were were truly expecting to receive exactly what the photo on the unit shows. I would not recommend this item to anyone - I would spend the extra money and purchase something that is already assembled or at least already painted. Sending this back would cost us the same for a new unit so we decided to toss it. If you are interested in the solar system and are looking to get a really cool model, look at something else.
| | solar system toy review by Salvina Sivio (Glendale, NY) 2 Stars April 09, 2009 The toy was ok for my son's solar system project - however it was very flimsy - one of the planets broke as we were assembling it. Then it comes with a glow in the dark paint - which dosen't even work!
Wasn't the best buy....
| | My six year old was very pleased. by Lindsey B. Goddard 4 Stars March 03, 2009 My daughter is in first grade. We were in the process of moving into a new home, but she still wanted to enter the Science Fair at her school. I didn't want to do anything too stressful, the move was stressful enough. So we decided to do research on why Pluto is no longer considered a planet. Easy, simple.
This model was the perfect visual aid. It was easy to assemble, and it's a lot of fun for her to manually rotate the planets around the sun now that it is complete. Our only problem was that the portions of paint provided were very small. Certain colors (brown and orange) are not included, and when we mixed them using other colors... we wasted too much and ended up with not enough yellow in the end.
Great product, especially for such a low price. Just be careful. Don't waste the paint!
| | Great educational toy! by Mammy (New York) 5 Stars January 30, 2009 My soon to be 5 yr.old grandson is into anything space! He absolutely LOVES this toy. It has over 1000 facts and questions. He already knows that Jupiter has 63 planets and he's only had this toy for one day! I would recommend this toy for any space loving child!!
