FEATURES

  • Drinking Bird A rather dumb looking 6" bird with a felt covered head and has plastic feet. Worse, he cannot get his fill of water. You buy the drinks.
  • Fluid inside condenses from the evaporative cooling of the water off the bird's beak, making it top heavy and dunking it back into the water. The condensate rejoins the liquid pool in the bird's bulb, and he tips up again. Process continues indefinitely.
  • It works, but it's not any more than moderately well made, and not any more than moderately priced. WARNING! The fluid and dye inside the bird can permanently stain, and the bird's glass body can easily be broken.
  • Children are fascinated by the bobbing bird, and the educational possibilities are great. But they should watch it, not fondle it!!

Contains methelene chloride by Susan Hancock (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) 1 Stars

I purchased this for my grandson, but, I won't be giving it to him. It contains methelene chloride; the last thing I want to give any child is a toy with a dangerous chemical in it. I've also tried to make it work with no luck. Too much of a hassle to return it; it's going in the trash. Save your money.

A requested gift! by C. Caufield (Chandler, AZ USA) 5 Stars

I purchased this item as a surprise for my fiance. He had stated repeatedly that he wished to find one of these birds. I searched around town and I couldn't find it anywhere. Checked all the online sites and this was the best price. Took it out of the box and all parts are there. Looks great and exactly what I ordered. Service was great and the package came when expected. Would order from the company again.

Precisely as expected by Dever P. Norman (Little Rock, AR USA) 4 Stars

This is as ugly as any other drinking bird I've seen so far, but once you get past that, it's handy for explaining pressure and condensation. Durability really doesn't apply here, as it's not a toy for children.

This bird does not stop drinking. I recommended he talk to someone about his problem, but all I got was the glazed over look in his eyes. With his goofy hat and tacky tail feather, he finds his way to any available drink and dips his head right in, regardless of who he's hurting in the process.

Radiometer

Radiometer
by Tedco

Experience this sphere powered by the sun! The vanes in the Radiometer are alternately dark and light in color. When the light strikes these vanes, it transfers heat to each one - but not at the same degree. The lighter vane reflects the rays and the darker vane absorbs the rays. The stronger the light, the more energy there is causing the vanes to spin faster.

Radiometer

Radiometer Another oldie but goodie. 5" high evacuated clear glass stand 3" in diameter at the top. A four bladed vane is balanced on a needle inside the sphere. Because opposite surfaces of the vanes are black and white, incident radiant energy is absorbed or reflected to a different degree. The result is a spinning vane. The brighter the light, the faster it spins. Simple, but compelling. Brief explanatory instruction sheet included.
