My son (who was born in 2003) has a bunch of giant microbes now. We have the flu, typhoid, polio, fat cells, bed bugs, a red blood cell and a white blood cell. These are fabulous, well constructed educational stuffies. They come with detailed explanations and fantastic pictures of the actual microbes. We've combined these with the Grossology book for a fun, silly educational experience. We have a lot of fun with flu in particular pretending to sneeze and throwing it at each other. The red blood cell is particularly aerodynamic and helps my son understand how blood works and, combined with the lumpy little white blood cell (named Luke now) ,explain how his blood tries to keep him healthy. Fat cells are fun as I am ... well ... not thin. I can show my son how the fat cells stick to my bottom and my belly. We giggle a lot, but he understands that Mom has to be careful what I eat to make less fat cells, where he can eat whatever he wants because he needs more fat cells.
There's also just something about the fat cells faces. They just look angry. I would be also if someone was always trying to diet me away :-).

I fell in love with GIANTmicrobes ever since I noticed the flesh eating microbe innocently sitting on my Botany teacher's desk. When I discovered the actual website, GIANTmicrobes.com, the prices were outrageous! Therefore, I knew Amazon would have them for a better price. Although price was at an affordable cost, the delivery was faster than I have ever imagined. Rather than actually having to wait a week - I had the chance to connect with my little buddies in a heartbeat.
Wait! That's NOT all! The company, GIANTmicrobes itself, is a very effective and educational reference for continuing health studies with adolescents. Your child will never have to fear from being sick. Although it doesn't really sound cute when you get to say, "little Sally likes to snuggle with the 'Rhinovirus,' or common cold, while she's sleeping," these GIANTmicrobes are soft, and plush-like.
My ten year old sister just HAD to get mini Fat Cells AND the common cold. Now, it seems that she doesn't mind having these cute little microbes inside. In addition, she continuously reads the back of the Petri Dish for some intriguing facts about her new "friends".
