Product Description
The world’s worst nuclear disaster occurred on April 26, 1986, at the Chernobyl power facility in the Ukraine. The area slowly recovered until 2006 when an unforeseen second explosion rocked the landscape, leaving a vast "Exclusion Zone" plagued with deadly energy disturbances in its wake. The quarantined Exclusion Zone expanded over time, and by 2012, specially equipped poachers, known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, venture into the Zone to claim radioactive artifacts for the black market. You are a new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. battling for survival among rivals, soldiers and mutant creatures while trying to discover the true nature of Chernobyl’s dark past and horrific future.

Excellent Atmosphere, Gunplay - Not for the faint of heart by Derek Melendez 5 Stars
October 22, 2009
The atmosphere of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is powerful. It is the only game to cause me genuine terror--perhaps even a panic attack--while playing. Upon reaching a particularly striking area, my heart rate reached higher than I'd ever experienced before in my life, and my instincts screamed not to force myself to proceed. This wasn't at all appropriate for a game, I realized; this was the proper biological response to my life being in completely real jeopardy! Aware of the potential for all-too-real heart attack, I shut the game off and did something relaxing the rest of the night. I came back to it only the next day, making sure I was calm. The gunplay is also quite excellent. While no game is fully accurate to real life, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. comes much closer than most. It was very refreshing to need to respect the lethality of exposure to gunfire--for yourself and your foes. On a related note, I found stealth and caution quite viable throughout most of the game, and thus very satisfying. There was even one amazing moment where an enemy and my character wound up with our guns in each others faces quite unexpectedly. There was the briefest of pauses as the situation dawned on myself and the AI-controlled adversary, faster than words, but slower than consciousness. At some point in this eternity of an instant, I refused to resign myself. I walked away from the simulated dead man, wondering why I wasn't in his place.

Quite a remarkable game! by desertrider (USA) 5 Stars

One of the most original shooter games to be released. Dripping with atmosphere, with also horror parts to make you jump. Like being in a post apocalyptic world and trying to survive. Belongs with the creme as far as first person shooters goes. Unique game that should be in all shooter fans collection. Avoid the sequel, have heard it is not up to snuff compared to this one. Also, one major frustration in the game is the weight limit, recommend getting a mod that is easily available so that there is no weight limit so you can carry all the guns and goodies you find, it makes the game so much more fun.

Way better than I expected. by R. Patterson (Kansas) 4 Stars

Aside from a few technical glitches this game has become one of my favorites. I was looking for a game where I can freely explore a large environment and not be tied to a linear gameplay path. Of course you kind of get that with this game near the end. But before that you can go anywhere. There is a lot of randomness to playing this game which makes for good replay value. There are element to the game that some may find cumbersome, but I find that it makes the game more challenging. Like the carrying weight limit and it effects on your mobility and endurance. It makes you pick and choose what to carry and how much. Also, this game has multiple endings. If you have an ending sooner than you expect then maybe you missed something that would take you somewhere else to more gameplay and one of the "True" endings I have a low end system. The game ran fairly well on the low graphics settings and did not take away very much from the game itself. I would just make sure you get the latest patches before playing.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ist the game which brought me back to my old gamerdays. You're translocated into a world which is dominated by violence, beastiality and death. Your mission: kill Strelok! Who is Strelok and who the heck are you? The answers can be found during your jurney through a contaminated world, which will assimilate you, if you're not prepared. I spend hours and hours playing this game, just because it is awesome - it really is. The AI is quite good, graphics are convincing. 4 stars because of the long time until this game was really finished.

I had two games and I didn`t know which to play next. STALKER or Oblivion. I played each for an hour and STALKER was the clear cut winner. It sucks you right in. It was so atmospheric and immersive that I felt as if I was really there. I have to say it was the best single player game I have ever played. Why it only received an 82 on that ranking sight is beyond me. It wasn`t a perfect game. It froze my computer up a few times even with all the patches and the guns locked up on me all the time if they weren`t in perfect condition annoyed the heck out of me, but I would recommend this game to everyone.
