| Xbox 360 messaging Kit by Vimal Gosein 4 Stars November 16, 2009 overall it is pretty good haven't had any problems with it my only quarrel is that the z button isn't clicking like the others if anyone gets what i mean
| | Why would you need this??? Read below. by Alex (Chicago, IL) 5 Stars November 13, 2009 I bought this keyboard as a gimmick, but ended up depending on it. I hate the software based keyboard, but I put up with it since I don't really type on my 360 except for registrations and wireless setup as I change my network needs. Once in a blue moon I had my messenger contacts type and hated the fact that it took forever to get a message out. I bought the keypad and been happy since, easy to use, keys properly spaced out, and believe or not, comfortable(to the point that I don't even remove it from my controller when I play).
Looks cumbersome,, but it's not.
| | You too can be a chatterbug! by Terrence Aybar (New York City) 4 Stars October 16, 2009 Forgive me for my review title. They're usually bad or really bad but its 4am and I'm beat. Anyway, the chat pad does what it's supposed to and it does it well. Backlit keys for you night owls. An extra headset thrown in. What else? Minor annoyance is that I find at times that looking for the alt characters can be a pain in the tush. Each key has about three characters and some use the green alt key while some use the orange... at any rate, don't expect to type messages without taking your eyes away from the screen. At the end, it's nice to be able to write out lengthier messages than my patience allowed me to when I was using just the controller. And taking into consideration that Facebook and Twitter functionality are just around the corner make this one a win-win purchase.
| | What a relief by Samuel Wills (Miami, FL USA) 5 Stars October 04, 2009 This product is such a relief. It makes messaging over X-Box live with your friends and the people that are in your party playing with you so easy and it's faster than using the control pad. I frequently can get a whole message out while a loading screen is on andbe done before it's time to play the game.
The headset that comes with it is designed for the keyboard and also makes voice messaging possible. The keyboard does not interfere with gameplay. Hope this review was helpful.
| | Great For Typing....Talking Though? Not So Much! by Trist 3 Stars October 02, 2009 Chatpad works well, the light-up keys are very nice and bright. There are times it's a bit awkward to type special symbols because you have to hold down one of the special keys in order to do so, which are located one on the bottom left one on the bottom right, and that means sometime the special key and trigger key might be on the same side, so you have have both hands on one side of the pad to make the selection you want. 2 thumb typing doesn't work in such instances. Luckily, it shouldn't trouble you much. Overall I'm happy with it, love that I can send off a message in no time flat now!
No, my problem is with the included mic, which you HAVE to use while the chatpad is attached. it looks and feels nearly identical to the standard wired mic, with one important difference, the mic volume it much lower. While I was able to hear others quite well, as with the reg. headset, others were having trouble hearing me. I tested it myself by recording a message and listening to it. Even with the volume all the way up, it just wasn't loud enough. It might be okay if you're used to talking rather loudly, but if your voice is somewhat soft, you'll probably find yourself, like me, having to remove the chatpad every time you want to talk, then replacing it to type. This is both annoying, and a bit worrisome as the connector is a thin metal plug, and you have to push and pull quite hard to get the pad on and off as iy fits so snuggle. I fear constantly doing this will lead to it breaking on me much sooner than it might have otherwise.
I don't know if there is a way to correct the volume issue, but until there is, I can only give this 3 stars.
