Amazon.com
Confront terrors both known and unknown in a explosive battle for survival with F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin for PC. This action-packed follow-up to Monolith Productions's award-winning supernatural shooter F.E.A.R. begins where the previous game left off. This time, you'll come up against Alma's powers from the perspective of special forces operator Michael Becket. After an enormous explosion has devastated the city of Auburn, you'll quickly discover that what seemed like an ordinary mission to retrieve and interrogate Genevieve Aristide is anything but. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -15px; } table.callout { font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1. 3em; } td.vgoverview { height: 125px; background: #9DC4D8 url(http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid #999999; border-right: 1px solid #999999; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 10px; width: 250px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px; } Ghoulish supernatural enemies give F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin a horrific, cinematic feel. Project Origin Run Amok: Alma's Background Fans of the first game will be familiar with the suspenseful story surrounding the psychic Alma, a peculiar and disturbing odyssey that adds depth to her devastating quest for revenge and immediacy to gameplay. Origin began as a secret military project run by the Aramacham Technology Corporation (ATC) . In an experiment run by Alma's own father, her DNA was used to create two clones that possessed her impressive psychic powers in an attempt to engineer a telepathic military commander. In the end, the research team became worried about the dangers of Alma's powers, and they tried to kill her. While her heart stopped beating and her physical body died, her psychic energy continued to exist, and she manifested herself in many forms, including both a child and a deformed adult figure that betrays the gruesomeness of her ordeal. Due to a string of events tied to both her clones, Alma has escaped the disastrous explosion of the last game and the facility where she was held, and the haunting manifestations of her power are at work all around you, adding an unpredictable, nightmarish quality to the world. Strange Events in a Supernatural Setting In order to get anywhere in the rubble of the city of Auburn, you'll need to survive firefights, stay calm in the face of surprisingly graphic events, and uncover the terrifying and mysterious nature of your real enemies. Your character's phenomenal reflexes allow the much-talked-about slow motion effect from the original title to persist here, giving you an edge in combat and adding to the unique nature of your perspective. Improved Details and Enemy AI An enhanced graphics engine means more detailed environments to explore and better effects. The vast destruction in the city opens up a huge variety of spaces and enhances the other-worldly feel of your mission, and you better be ready to stay on guard because all-new enemies powered by improved AI don't just act more realistically than their predecessors, they employ advanced combat tactics and know how to use the environment against you. But they aren't the only ones with more resources at their disposal--additional world interaction enhancements allow you to create cover and protect yourself or remove obstacles from your path. While it may be the horrific action and the details that first catch your eye, the tactical demands and the way story elements are slowly unveiled promise to help keep you interested as gameplay wears on. And for those times when you're not in the mood for a prolonged single-player campaign, this title also offers the ability to battle with or against friends in multiplayer mode.

Weaker than the original by Scott Peterson (Center of the U.S.) 3 Stars

As with most sequels Fear 2 is a technical improvement, the appearance of a nuclear blasted city and the ghostly monsters you encounter is a sight to behold. I was even able to get passable performance on my aged 8800GT at 1680X1050 resolution. The plot is the let down, you are playing a different character than the first game, and there isn't the central evil persona of Paxton Fettel to tie it all together. They replay the story of Alma, but you pretty much know it and you don't have the twist revelation at the end. The conclusion sets up for yet another sequel, and is easily one of the most bizarre I've seen in a game. I'd rate this game high for action and effects and low for the story.

Pleasantly surprised. by Kenneth Cook 5 Stars

After getting a great workout in Fear One, I really thought that Fear 2 would be a hollow mockery. I'm glad to see that the creators realized the strong points from Fear One and utilized them into a nice ride in Fear 2.

Linear SF themed FPS by Daniel Leithauser (Grand Junction, CO USA) 4 Stars

The price is right, just showing that if you wait long enough, you will get a deal on a fun, up to date game. Steam sometimes has a deal, so look around for the best price. Never having played the first Fear series, I cannot make any comparisons to prior versions. I can tell you that the most current version is a first class FPS with plenty of ammo and a variety of weaponry to entertain those into this type of game. While there are cookie cutter similarities in all of these games, dating back to the original Doom engine and model --notably how you find armor, ammo, and things to shoot at-- Fear adds a nice touch of hallucinations along with a solid linear story line. The ending is satisfying, although it took me a couple of times to understand what I was seeing. Graphics are top notch, on par with Left 4 Dead, but not as detailed as Fallout 3. Hallucinatory sequences are very satisfying graphically, pulling you in and leading up to something you will need to pay attention to. No stuttering or other glitches occurred with Vista 64 and a Nvidia 9800m GS video card at the highest video settings available. The AI, while linear and mostly predictable, presented a challenging game, especially in a couple of sequences. The ability to slow down time was unnecessary for much of the game but came in handy near the end. The add-on DLC "Reborn" required many more slow downs in battle and seemed a bit more challenging in spots. Overall linearity is broken up with a couple of sequences of falling through windows and multiple levels, along with a variety of hallways, buildings, control rooms, and outside areas. It is difficult to get lost, but it holds interest on the first go around. Second time? If you like FPS linear shooters, I assure you that Fear 2: Project Origin and the add-on DLC reborn, will give you a number of hours of fun.

STEAM = CONTROL FREAKS - stay away from any steam games by M. Machado (Steele, MO United States) 1 Stars

This is how it is: I would potentially rate the game if I could play it. Since I purchased it used, it was already activated to a Steam account. The Steam account is required to install the game. I tried to get Steam to transfer the CD Key to my already present account but was told no. Here is Steam's lame response: " Unfortunately, used CD Keys (whether resold or given by an individual or a store selling used goods) cannot be reset. Please see the Steam Subscriber Agreement and the CD Key Reset Process FAQ if you would like more information:" You can spend all day going through their agreements but nowhere does it say that the game is a rental and all your rights are null and void even if you have the game CD (not burned or duplicated), game case, game manual, sales insert, jewel case cover and invoice for sale. Had I known it was a rental (you never can really own this game) I would have waited until it reached rental prices of $[...] and played it for my allotted 3 days... Extreme disappointment since the first three installments were outstanding and now I have to deal with a game I purchased that won't play. Steam & Valve Co.'s need to get their act together before everyone bands together and stops buying their crap. SecureROM seems like open source compared to these vultures. DON'T BUY ANY USED VERSION! IT WILL NOT PLAY... EVER!!!!

Cheseball game not worthy of the title. It's been made buy a different studio and believe me it's different, but not in an improved way. -Guns don't sound realistic -graphics are dated by about 5 years. I don't think there's a reflective surface in the whole game. -Voice acting is lame. -AI is just stupid and irritating. Not worthy of being in the franchise, somrbody's out to just make a quick buck. With so many quality shooters out there, go somewhere else. Not to mention it's a Steam product-took me 8 hours to download to play,(STEAM SERVERS WERE BUSY) can't be purchased used. Don't waste your time.
