Interesting, but not exciting by masterpastor (UT USA) 2 Stars

I actually bought this game based on the stellar reviews, but ran into trouble uploading it to Windows 7 right from the get-go. The panoramic spread of countries and cultural attitudes is fairly amusing and passingly interesting if you're a history buff (which I am). But if you are hoping for a video game that sucks you in and hours pass without your even knowing it--this is not the game for you. It is slow, it is mechanical, and I agree with those who found the AI's tendency to make its own rules...frustrating, to choose a neutral word. 100% accurate on all strategy and no action (at least, nothing you have control over). The game's setup/arrangement is fairly interesting, the graphics can actually be quite helpful (if a bit simplistic, considering the vast range of all the countries involved), your options of royal marriages and religious alliances can be amusing, but by all means, get a cool DVD to watch while playing this game (or, rather, while it's playing itself). A definite snoozer. :o(

Improved but not perfect by JDV (Gainesville, FL United States) 3 Stars

Europa Universalis 3 is a big improvement over it's predecessors. It's more stable, the interface is greatly improved (why did it take until the third game to make the space bar the pause key?) and of course the graphics are better. As far as I can tell, this is the best grand strategy game out there, certainly the best historical grand strategy game. You are in command of any country in existance in 1400, and you run it until 1820. There are other scenarios included, but this is the game people get it for. It is very complex, and not well explained, so if you don't want to spend a lot of time playing and learning the game, get something simpler.

Save your money. Get something else. by Doug (Oregon) 1 Stars

First. I have Windows Vista, & game loads & runs. But, the Tutorials crash, & are useless. NO Manual, in mine or my friends. Tried contacting Paradox, both through Customer Support & Forum, no reply. Tried just playing it to try to figure it out. Much to involved. If I felt like spending a dozen years working on it...maybe. Thus...save your money...it is a NO GO.

Hours and hours by R. Genz (Eugene, OR United States) 5 Stars

Love this game. I've spent countless hours playing it. For novices, it will take some time to learn how to play as the games is very deep. You're not going to get Total War style battles, but rather and extremely in depth Risk style game with many, many layers.

Do not buy this game by Honest Guy (Maryland) 5 Stars

I made a mistake by buying this game. The main reason being that it doesn't work on my computer. So I checked online, and I saw that numerous users running different versions of Windows (Vista, XP) are having identical issues. Paradox Interactive, the company that made this game, is of no help. I spent time on the "support" section of their Web site, but it didn't help. So do yourself a favor, save some of your hard-earned money and some of your precious time: do not buy this game to then spend hours looking on the Internet to find ways to fix this non-functioning game.
