CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 4.0 based on 12 reviews)
| Very, very, very intense by Rolf Ernst (Frisco, TX USA) 4 Stars December 28, 2008 To be honest: I only managed to watch the series twice. I am not particularly squeamish but this movie takes it to the extreme. Part of it is certainly the knowledge that none of this is staged. If you ever wanted to know what 'this or that' looks like, this documentary will show it.
I am very torn about giving it four stars because of its grueling nature. It is not something I would 'recommend'. I hope it has become clear through all other reviewers advisories that this is not something you get down with some popcorn. It is an extreme experience.
The footage itself is often not all that good but what can you expect? Expert lighting for a suicide?
I failed to give it the five star rating because of the 'Death Metal' sound track. Clearly concocted by a number of highly ungifted musicians whose idiotic lyrics detract from the realities depicted. The film will probably work better with the sound turned off.
It has given me nightmares for weeks. Some of the scenes I will likely never forget. I still say I would watch it again had I not seen it. I doubt I will ever watch it again. If you want something that will haunt you for a long time (and, I have little doubt, will also impact your psyche), go for it.
It's not Indiana Jones or Harry Potter.
| | Its like anything morbid.....you have to look by Dave (Hell) 5 Stars July 03, 2004 When you drive past a bad car accident you always look to see just how bad the scene is.....Watching these movies are the same sort of thing. You watch them to see how unforgiving the world can be, and to see what sort of atrocities are out there. To put it simply you watch them because of morbid curiosity. First off, if your bothered by blood and death then DO NOT watch these films. OR Do watch them to numb your gross out factor. They are not for weak stomached people thats for sure. All of the compliled footage and photos on the Traces of Death series are infact REAL. Another reviewer stated that the "Faces of Death" series is all real and the Traces series is fake.....Which is far from the truth. The old cheesy Faces of Death is the series that has a lot of fake stuff, mainly reinactments of stories. Traces of Death is 100% real footage. So yes sometimes the footage is grainy because it was shot by a random on looker, or an amateur photographer. We can't expect professional photographers to be on site at every catastrophic event can we? The first Traces has some horrific scenes including an actual suicide, a grizzly shot of a man being run over by an Race Car, and a man that gets eaten by lions in front of his family. The music on this one is cheesy keyboard music, but all and all this is probably the "worst" or "most shocking" of the set.The second film has starts the beginning of a death metal background score. It contains scenes of people falling out of burning buildings, shootings, and a wicked scene of a man being quartered by two Jeeps. The third film is more of the same sort of stuff, death & death metal. The final scene on this one is a brutal execution scene involving the El Salvador death squade....this one is barbaric. The forth and fifth are sort of the lacking ones of the set. The forth is more blood and guts with nothing really new or interesting. On the fifth tape the producers got a little too carried away with the whole backyard wrestling stuff ( it consumes at least half of the tape). The only real interesting scene on the fifth tape is concluding scene which is the legendary LA Highway Suicide scene. If your curious about these shockumentary type films watch one of these films, but beware as these are no joke. Traces of Death are in fact all real footage. These movies are interesting, but they really make the rest of your day kind of dark. For me watching them is only a morbid curiosity to what is out there, nothing more. If you like Death metal movies 2-5 have some great bands like Dismember, Gorefest, Sinister and many others (from the relapse record label). All and all these are the best shock films around, you might want to get them now before they stop selling them.

| | The real world!!! by Manuel Arias (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico USA) 4 Stars December 06, 2002 Entertaining? Yes. Informative? Absolutely. There is a side of the world that some of us consider too dark to even talk about it. This videos show us that dark side in its truest form. It shows the brutality and inhumanity of many in the world. The scenes are gory, brutal and cold. Is an eye opener to see this things. You'll never be the same after viewing this videos.
