The LG Xenon in blue with a 2.8-inch touchscreen with vibrating feedback.... The Xenon's large touchscreen with vibration feedback and enhanced user interface make menus, shortcuts, and contacts available right at your fingertips. And with its compact, slideout QWERTY keyboard, you can quickly send text messages and emails. Other features include a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth for handsfree devices and stereo music streaming, MicroSD memory expansion (up to 16 GB), organizer tools, access to mobile email and instant messaging, and up to 4 hours of talk time. AT&T Service This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network (UMTS/HSDPA), which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it's also very useful for business. For example, a majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so. ...and a smooth, slide-out full QWERTY keyboard for easy text messaging and writing longer emails. You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. It's also pre-loaded with AT&T's Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from AT&T affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you're on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. AT&T customers pay no additional fee to access mobile banking and, because the application resides on the handset, the service is optimized to reduce the number of new page views necessary to complete a transaction. Minimal data usage charges apply and vary based on individual use. Phone Features The LG Xenon has a 2.8-inch LCD touchscreen with a 240 x 400-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors. CUSTOMER REVIEWS (Average Customer Rating: 3.0 based on 25 reviews)
| WARNING-DO NOT BUY LG XENON by Jessie C. (Bossier City, Louisiana) 1 Stars November 17, 2009 I bought this phone as a gift for my son in September for his birthday. A few days after he had it, the screen started having a bubble in the middle. We took it back and AT&T replaced it no problem. The second phone did the same thing but this time we had to call the 800 number instead of them replacing it in the store and as usual AT&T always blames you for the problem(s). We have been with AT&T for 12 years and if they cannot treat their loyal customers with more respect than that then we will be taking our business elsewhere. The phone has never been dropped and there are no scratches anywhere on it. We have to take the second phone to the AT&T warranty store so we will see what they do from there. I'll keep you updated.
| | Buyer Beware! by invisible (United States) 1 Stars October 29, 2009 This is a copy of the review I wrote for the black phone, same model, different color. For some reason Amazon phone reviews don't carry over.I got this phone as a replacement for a water damaged Motorola phone. This was a big mistake.
1) Reception: This phone spontaneously loses service. Usually this occurs when moving from tower to tower. I called AT&T about this problem and they did update the software which allows it to only lose service half the time in the city rather than 3/4 of the time. This occurs in conditions when my wife's iphone maintains 3 or 4 bars.
2) Ease of use: It has a touch screen which slides open to expose a hardware keyboard. The touch screen spontaneously locks during calls and will give false inputs if you try to use it to input PIN numbers or negotiate automated menu choices during a call. So the hardware keyboard must be used instead. On some but not all calls it appears you must use the function key to obtain numerical input on the hardware keyboard...very frustrating. Both touch screen and hardware keyboard work better using a stylus but there is no stylus dock and no stylus is provided.
Normally it must be carried locked due to the risk of false inputs to the touch screen but in half light or darkness there are no distinguishing characteristics between the lock button and the volume down button. The lock button is very close to the camera switch which adds to the confusion. I suppose this would be acceptable to a user with perfect night vision, tiny hands and no calluses on their hands.
3) Unneeded functions - bling: There are numerous extra-cost services which clutter all the menus and screens and which appear impossible to delete. This comes at the expense of poorer access to functions the user needs on a daily basis.
4) Battery life: The battery normally only lasts a day or two between charges, even if there are no calls. There is an annoying, irregular, spontaneous, loud warning beep which cannot be turned off nor reset, which usually starts in the middle of the night when the phone decides it needs a charge.
5) Durability: This product is fragile. It appears easily scratched, dented and unsuitable to carry except in a heavy leather case, which unfortunately increases its rate of signal loss.
6) Audibility: The normal speaker (except for warning beeps) is impossible to hear in a moving truck but somewhat audible in a well soundproofed car. Conference mode is barely audible in a truck and easily audible in a car if it is held to the ear. Under quiet conditions with less than 4 bars of reception there remains a constant clipping or skip of both transmission and reception.
7) Connectivity: With effort it will produce a short range bluetooth connection which must be quickly stopped before batteries are depleted. Unfortunately its USB port is nonstandard and requires an extra-cost cable so I don't know how well that function works.
8) In summary: This would be an ideal gift purchase if the buyer has a wealthy elderly uncle whom they wish to drive insane so as to gain control of his vast estate. Or perhaps it could be sent to the buyer's favorite imprisoned Ponzi schemer. Otherwise buy anything else. This phone is entirely unsatisfactory, most suitable for use by a technophilic lemur who is addicted to purchasing extraneous add-on services.
| | A decent phone, but a bad SMS choice by J. Macaluso Sr. (Buellton, CA USA) 2 Stars October 06, 2009 The phone itself is pretty good, although the touch screen locks up on me. I am only able to unlock it by opening (or closing) the keyboard and re-closing (or re-opening) it. Quite a pain when you're in a hurry. There is also a noticeable lack of security on this phone as well. Your choices are pretty much "don't lock it" or "lock every time I try to do anything". But the worst thing about the phone is keyboard itself. The keys are way too small for anyone to realistically use, except someone with fingers as thin as pencils. If you press the letter A a little too hard, the email application opens due to the proximity of the email button. Same thing with the letter Z, only that launches the Internet browser. Other keyboard complaints include having to turn shift on and off after each capital letter. It only works as "Caps Lock" instead of "Shift". And the same thing goes for the Function key. You have to turn it off and on. It slows everything way down to the point of not really being worth using cases, and making it easier to type "eleven" instead of "11".
On the positive side, battery life is pretty good, and the camera is decent, although only 2 mega pixels. Video recording is decent as well.
My suggestion boils down to spending more money and buying the Samsung Impression, or spending less money and buying the LG Neon. Both have great keyboards, but the Neon's touch screen is only for dialing the phone. Everything else is done by buttons. This is a great phone, but it lacks the security required for a business environment. The Impression is definitely the leader of the pack with the great keyboard and the best touch screen out there!
| | Can't sync with outlook by P. Jain (WWW) 1 Stars September 22, 2009 Its 2009 and what LG calls as smart phone can't sync with outlook. My Nokia phone in 2000 could sync with outlook.
After buying data cable and software, I realized that LG doesn't support Xenon for outlook sync. I have wasted multiple hours on internet to find that despite all the workarounds posted you can't really sync the phone with outlook. Mine is going back.
BTW other than that:
Battery life is miserable.
Touch is un predictable
Phone hangs every now and then..
| | LG Xenon - Touchscreen - Texting - More... by Jamie Ratliff 5 Stars August 24, 2009
I bought the Xenon to replace a Samsung Propel. I wanted a phone that would be easier to text with. The propel had a qwerty keyboard, but the keys were a bit small. The Xenon came along and grabbed my attention. Here are my thoughts on the LG Xenon.
Pros:
- The Xenon keyboard is easy to use, even for a guy like me with bigger fingers.
- The battery life is better than I expected (I don't text all day though so your mileage may vary).
- The touchscreen works fairly easy and seems to respond decent enough for me.
- The screen is large enough to use the Internet for quick information without scrolling constantly.
- The phone is designed well and sleek.
- The phone really is superior to most others for Text Messaging.
Cons:
- The phone has some minor quirks that I'd like to see fixed. Ex: Having to enter your password to clear the entire call log is annoying.
- Since it is a touchscreen, you will want to buy a screen protector. I suggest a rubber protective case with the screen protector.
- If you do not use a data plan you may find yourself accidentally getting online. The work around for this is creating invalid profiles...
Even with the cons listed, I couldn't drop the rating to 4 stars because the phone really is a good deal.
As always, I'd suggest visiting a retail store to try it out before purchasing to make sure it's comfortable for you.
