Media invitation: Wind - Power of the Future
March 11, 2004Hot on the heels of its recent report The Cost of Generating Electricity, the Royal Academy of Engineering is co-hosting a topical lecture entitled 'Wind Energy - Powering the Future'. The lecture will take place on Monday 15 March at The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
Guest speaker, Dr Ian Mays, is Managing Director of Renewable Energy Systems Ltd and winner of a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal for his pioneering work in creating commercially viable wind farms.
He says, "As public and political concern grows over global warming, governments are increasingly looking to renewable sources of energy to make an increasing contribution to power supplies, thereby helping its stability and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Wind energy is the most cost effective renewable technology and its development around the world is growing rapidly."
His presentation will review the history, technology, economics, issues and prospects for wind energy, both onshore and offshore as a major contributor to future power needs.
