Superstar Video Jockey Mixes It For Kingston UniversityNovember 07, 2003An artist who has made his name at Radio 1 has been sounding out a different audience after accepting a new challenge at Kingston University's Stanley Picker Gallery. Charles Kriel, who has teamed up with DJ heavyweights such as Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold as Radio 1's artist in residence, has just been appointed the gallery's design fellow. Mr Kriel has established himself as a leading video jockey, producing visual mixes of live music events using top-of-the-range technology. The images are beamed to Radio 1's listeners over the internet. The American-born VJ, who is also a filmmaker and composer, took up his position at the Stanley Picker Gallery last month. "I'm really looking forward to developing my research alongside staff teaching a wide range of subjects such as engineering, music and art design history," Mr Kriel said. His appointment will culminate in an exhibition at the Picker Gallery early next year. Although the show is in the planning stage, Mr Kriel hinted it would be related to his upbringing in a travelling circus. "I'm planning to work closely with Kingston University's students over the next year and I hope many of them will get involved in the exhibition," he said. The video jockey started life as an acrobat and clown in Illinois, before pursuing a different career. | |||||||||||||||||||||
