Cranfield University Reaches Remoter RegionsJune 16, 2003The Third Air Transport in Remoter Regions Forum, organised by Cranfield University and recently held in Cork, Ireland, proved the ideal platform for Cranfield to announce the establishment of their Air Transport in Remoter Regions Research Centre. The centre aims to provide an international focal point for the dissemination of expert knowledge and best practice in the provision of air services, airports and associated infrastructure in remoter regions. The forum, which proved a great success, saw over 70 speakers and delegates congregate from around the world who were addressed by key government and industry decision-makers on issues relating to the operation, financing, organisation and regulation of air services and airports in remoter regions. Dr Williams, the centre's Director, said: "Given the growing interest in the bi-annual forum and the increasing amount of research undertaken by the Air Transport Group at Cranfield University for European, national and regional governments, the establishment of an international research centre devoted to air transport in remoter regions seemed highly appropriate." An advisory group of experts, with extensive knowledge of the issues affecting air transport provision in a wide selection of the world's remoter regions, has been set up to aid the centre's development. The centre's on-line forum will provide an important underpinning for these bi-annual conferences, the next of which is to be held in Scandinavia in Spring 2005. | |||||||||||||||||||||
