Aventis Prizes For Science Books - General Prize Shortlist AnnouncedMay 28, 2003Aliens, risk, human nature, networks, asymmetry and dark energy provide the inspiration for the books on the shortlist for the £10,000 General Prize of the Aventis Prizes for Science Books 2003. The shortlist for the General Prize, selected from 94 entries submitted this year, is: Small World by Mark Buchanan (Weidenfeld & Nicolson) The Extravagant Universe by Robert P. Kirshner (Princeton University Press) Right Hand, Left Hand by Chris McManus (Weidenfeld & Nicolson) The Blank Slate by Steven Pinker (Allen Lane) Where Is Everybody? by Stephen Webb (Copernicus Books)
The winner will be announced at a gala awards dinner for the Junior and General Prizes at the Science Museum, London on Wednesday, 25 June 2003. Each prize is worth £10,000 to the winning authors and £1,000 to each of the other shortlisted authors. Celebrating their 15th year in 2003, the Aventis Prizes are described as the world's most prestigious science book awards and recognise the very best in popular science writing.
