University of Ulster Tops e-Learning League Table

The University of Ulster is way out in front when it comes to online learning - and that's official.

Thanks to its pioneering Campus One initiative, which has attracted students from all over the world to sign up for courses delivered via the World Wide Web, the University of Ulster now has the largest portfolio of online Masters' degree programmes of any university in the UK.

The news came in statistics published by the International Centre for Distance Learning, which maintains a database of UK learning programmes.

Figures extracted from the data base of the International Centre for Distance Learning showed that the University of Ulster has 12 Masters' Degree programmes, way ahead of its nearest rival, Robert Gordon University of Aberdeen, with 7. In third place is Heriot Watt University of Edinburgh, with 4.

Professor Clive Mulholland, Professor of Technology Enhanced Learning , and head of the Campus One project at the University, said: "We are delighted that Campus One has been recognised as the leader in its field by the International Centre for Distance Learning. It's a double celebration for us, in that we have just completed our first year of activity in Campus One.

"We want to be recognised as leaders in global online course delivery, and these figures demonstrate that we are well on the way towards achieving that goal. They also highlight how we can compete on a global scale now that the geographic barriers have been removed by technology. "
