Lifeburn - heating systems for domestic applicationSeptember 23, 2002Heating systems must adjust the thermal power to the needs of the user through the modulation of their thermal power. So a major efficiency, less polluting emissions and more comfort can be obtained. However, the difficulty to develop new radiant burners has slow down the appearing of new equipments. A solution for this problem was proposed in a European project within the BRITE-EURAM programme of the FRAMEWORK IV PROGRAMME, oriented towards the development of a new methodology of design of premixture radiant burners for domestic application. The objective of this project was the development of a new methodology of design of premixture radiant burners for domestic use based on the prediction of the useful life of the burner. This methodology involves a series of guides, material selection criteria, test proceedings and equipments that ensure an efficient development and lower cost of gas equipments. The activity of Ikerlan has been focused on the following aspects: - Complete development of 17 test cameras, distributed among the partners, together with the communication system (CAN) and monitoring software and control of tests (LabWindows). Other achievements of the project have been: - Development of degradation and estimation models of the useful life of premixture burners. The consortium of the project was formed by 15 entities (companies, research centres and universities) of 7 European countries: Nederlandse Gasunie, ECO Ceramics and Eindhoven University of Technology (Holland), Kanthal (Sweden), Acotech (Belgium), Gaz de France (France), Italgas, Worgas, Bruciatory and Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Ikerlan, Repsol, Ceramic and Glass Institute (CSIC) and Morgan Matroc (Spain) and INETI and CATIM (Portugal). The global cost of the project was five million euros. | |||||||||||||||||||||
