European award to researcher on adolescenceSeptember 03, 2002The European Association for Research on Adolescence (EARA) awards a biennial prize to a young researcher who has made significant contributions to the field of research on adolescence. At a conference in Oxford, September 3-6, 2002, the EARA Young Scholar Award will be conferred upon Henrik Andershed “in appreciation of his excellent research on antisocial behavior. The award committee has recognized hat his work has contributed important new knowledge of adolescent development.” Henrik Andershed completed his doctorate in psychology last spring with a dissertation titled Antisocial Behavior in Adolescence--The Role of Individual Characteristics at Ã-rebro University in Sweden. In his thesis Henrik Andershed investigated the importance of individual characteristics in criminal behavior among youths. On of the key findings was that it is important to focus on specific personality traits in order to identify a particularly problematic subgroup of criminal adolescents. The dissertation also discusses what consequences this knowledge might entail for the prevention and treatment of criminal behavior among youths.
