Only 5 years left to deal with to Europe's End of Life Vehicle Directive - UK Vehicle Industry Looks to New German and Spanish Solutions at Special Conference: press invitation
August 23, 2002The European End of Life Vehicle Directive has significant implications for all involved in the production, procurement, use and disposal of motor vehicles. Estimates of the cost of this exceed £75 million per annum. The UK government`s decision to make last users fund the cost of ELV processing lasts only to 2007. So there is considerable interest in a conference being organised by the University of Warwick's Warwick Manufacturing Group which will present some new German and Spanish solutions to this problem.
The conference "ELV 2002" takes place on Monday 9th September 2002, at the Warwick Manufacturing Group's "International Manufacturing Centre" with presentations from Germany on novel materials sorting technology and information on vehicle recycling in Spain. Speakers and key delegates already attending the conference include representatives from Jaguar, Landrover, Spanish Consortium for Car Recycling, European Metal recycling ltd, the Institute of materials, and the Foresight Vehicle initiative.
Presentations will also be made on the challenges facing the industry in designing for recycling as well as the implications to the industry with regard to the necessary reduction in heavy metal content of vehicles. Other presentations will cover vehicle disassembly as well as component reuse issues. The economics of new business opportunities from waste vehicle residues will also be addressed.
