3D Molecular Sciences Appoints Dr Elizabeth Hill as CEOJuly 16, 2002Cambridge, UK, 16th July 2002...3D Molecular Sciences Ltd (3DMS™), a recent spin-out from The Generics Group, Imperial College Innovations and the University of Hertfordshire, has announced the appointment of Dr Elizabeth Hill as full time Chief Executive Officer. Dr Hill has some 20 years experience in the biotechnology, life sciences and healthcare sectors. For the last nine years prior to joining 3D Molecular Sciences, she has been running her own consultancy business providing mentoring services and funding to start-up technology businesses. As a consultant she has been an Associate with GenTech Investment Management Ltd, part of the Generics Group and now an investor in 3D Molecular Sciences, as well as with Scientific Generics. Previous experience has included the MBO of Enzymatix leading to the formation of Chiroscience and Celsis, and the trade sale of a food ingredients company that she helped fund as a business angel. Commenting on her appointment, Dr Hill said: "3D Molecular Sciences is an attractive start up even in these difficult times. It has a strong patent position in optically readable encoded microscopic particles and 3D array bead-based technologies with commercial opportunities across a range of life science applications including genomic and proteomic analysis, clinical diagnostics and bioterrorism". Dr Peter Hyde, Non Executive Chairman of 3D Molecular Sciences and Managing Director of Scientific Generics said: "Dr Hill has a wide range of experience in start up companies and contacts in life sciences from instrumentation, biopharmaceuticals, enabling technologies for drug discovery & development, and clinical trials. This will prove invaluable in exploring and securing opportunities for the application of 3D Molecular Science's technology". As a consultant Dr Hill helped the company raise seed corn finance of £0.5 million and will now be leading the Series A funding round, to raise funds to enable it to extend its technologies into screens for gene-linked diseases such as cancer, obesity, and cystic fibrosis, and to detect foreign biological contaminants, such as those identified in bioterrorism.
