Oxygen Is The New Water! Personal Oxygen Suppliers Will Take Over From Bottled Mineral WaterJuly 08, 2002In ten years time instead of bottles of water we could all be walking around carrying personal supplies of oxygen for a quick energy boost according to a student at Nottingham Trent University. Recent Furniture and Product Design graduate Lisa Clarke came up with the ingenious idea whilst working towards her final degree project. She believes that the nation is becoming more and more health conscious and this will only increase in years to come with what we would view as extreme in 2002 becoming the norm by 2010. A proposal of the oxygen bottle, called ‘Flip’, will be unveiled at the New Designers show in London. It will be as small and discrete as a bottle of water and a quick puff will supply the user with a small amount of oxygen. Lisa was optimistic about her design. She said “Ten years ago no-one would have thought that carrying a little bottle of water would be normal but for a large amount of people it is now commonplace. Oxygen occurring naturally in the air obviously keeps us all alive but an extra burst could potentially gave us much more energy, clear toxins from the blood stream as well as fighting off infection. I think that having a personal supply could be the way of the future for the health conscious. “The design is still in its early stages but the concept is very exciting”. A new method of tracking surgical instruments so the chances of them becoming lost is minimalised will also be featured at the show. Designer, Ian Dera was aware of the controversy that can occur when medical instruments are lost and sometimes left in patients. His aim was to ensure that the chances of this happening were dramatically reduced by the use of 2D coding. Other designs from students at Nottingham Trent include an innovative air filter to decrease pollution in public areas such as pubs, a product that supersedes the watering can and hose pipe and takes the hard work out of gardening and a range of contemporary environmentally friendly outdoor furniture made from recycled products.
