Government Announces New Logbook For Innovators
June 06, 2002Helping safeguard Britain's cutting edge ideas
Britain's best inventors can help safeguard their creative ideas using a new logbook launched today by Science Minister Lord Sainsbury.
Inventors, businesses and universities can use the new 'Innovation Logbook' to record the development of original ideas and inventions and protect valuable intellectual property.
The Logbook is designed for use as a chronological record of original work, including space for notes, ideas, calculations, minutes, sketches and charts.
Its non-tamperable binding, numbered pages and space for witness signatures will help inventors accumulate legal evidence of the ownership of their ideas.
The Logbook also contains guidelines on how creators can make use of the intellectual property rights system to obtain patents, copyright and Trade Marks.
Speaking at the launch of the Innovation Logbook at the Institute of Civil Engineers today, Lord Sainsbury said:
"The UK is widely recognised for its inventive nature and has been the birthplace of many of the world's life changing ideas.
"Our original thinkers are now turning their ideas into tangible results and developing them in a way that protects their future.
"I therefore welcome the introduction of the Innovation Logbook, which will help to develop new products, processes and services, and achieve commercial success."
