Press invitation: World's first cyborg visits University of Sussex
May 23, 2002Kevin Warwick, Professor of Cybernetics at the University of Reading will give a talk entitled 'When will Cyborgs rule the World?' on Tuesday 28 May at the University of Sussex.
Kevin Warwick hit the headlines most recently in March this year when he had electrodes inserted into his arm in order to link his nervous system to a computer.
His visit to the University of Sussex is likely to prompt some lively debate, as his research in artificial intelligence is highly controversial. Blay Whitby and Inman Harvey, both from the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence subject group at the University of Sussex, have in the past been highly critical of Warwick's methods and claims.
Professor Warwick will pose a number of questions in his lecture, such as whether it will be robots or cyborgs that will surpass humans and run the world in the future? Will our world become a virtual one? What would it be like for human brains to be linked, as one, with machine brains? Will "I" exist in the future?
All are welcome to the lecture at 4pm on Tuesday 28 May in the Biology Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex campus at Falmer, near Brighton.
