Children Seize Sci-Zmic Opportunity to Judge Top Book PrizeMay 17, 2002The Aventis Prizes for Science Books have teamed up with Sci-Zmic - the new national network for science clubs - to find the winner of the Junior section of the 2002 Prizes. Children aged up to fourteen, from 30 science clubs around the UK, will take over from the five-strong adult judging panel chaired by Dr John Ashworth, former chairman of the board of the British Library, which has the task of selecting the shortlist of the Junior Prize. Natasha Martineau, manager of Copus, the organiser of the Prizes said: "We are very excited to be teaming up with Dr. Rosalind Mist, the Sci-Zmic project manager, said: "This is a unique opportunity for club members to contribute their opinions to a major book award. The Aventis Prizes project will add an extra dimension to science club sessions, encouraging the club members to think critically about the science presented to them via science books." The shortlist for the Junior Prize will be announced at the end of April and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on June 25, 2002. Each prize is worth £10,000 to the winning author and £1,000 to each of the other shortlisted authors. | |||||||||||||||||||||
