Press invitation - Swiss White In London - Technology Guarantees Switzerland Snow In LondonMarch 05, 2002PRESS CONFERENCE - 10.00 at The Swiss Embassy, 21 Bryanston Square, London W1 on 6 March For the first time ever a London Embassy will be transformed into a frost-covered snow-house on 6 - 7 March. Inspired by the United Nations International Year of Mountains 2002, the Swiss Embassy, Bryanston Square, London will be covered in ice and snow in a unique event to launch a three-year programme of British-Swiss events and projects in the UK called Dialogue Across Mountains - from Dialogue to Partnership. The front of the Ambassador's residence will be lit and encrusted with frost. Snow will fall gently from the roof onto guests as they enter the building to attend the events being held to mark this occasion. Bio-degradable paper snow will be used to decorate trees and plants with plastic antistatic display snow spread on the white ski carpet on the patio to heighten the effect. Real snow, made only with water and no additives will complete the picture. Celebrities and guests will arrive on the evening of 6 March to watch a fashion show by Swiss Textiles which will highlight the best in new Swiss design. The building's terrace garden will be magically transformed into a quiet snowy paradise where guests will be able to wander and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere. During the day, and as part of the educational aspect of the programme, a class of children from a local primary school will learn about snow and ice. They will make ice sculptures and a video and find out about the UN's International Year of Mountains. Children from the neighbourhood have also been invited to play in the snow. Dialogue Across Mountains recognises and celebrates the UK's and Switzerland's love for the mountains. The three-year programme will seek to build long-term partnerships between the British and the Swiss. Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) |
