Nominations sought for 2001 Stockholm water prizeAugust 30, 2000Institutions, Organizations, Individuals and Companies Eligible for $150,000 Prize (STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN) Nominations for the $150,000 international Stockholm Water Prize, which is presented annually for outstanding contributions to the conservation and sustainable use of the world’s water resources, will be accepted until September 31, 2000. The international scientific and environmental communities, the business sector and the general public are invited to submit nominations for the prize. The Stockholm Water Prize has been awarded annually since 1991 by the Stockholm Water Foundation to an institution, organization, individual or a company. The prize honors achievements in science, engineering, technology, education or public policy that increase knowledge of water and protect its usability for all life. The Laureate will be announced on the UN World Day for Water in March 2001. His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden is the Patron of the Stockholm Water Prize and will present the award at a ceremony in the Swedish capital in August 2001. Prize Laureates have represented many water-related activities – technology and engineering, directed research, economic research, water supply and development, education, etc. – and have come from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Great Britain, India, Israel, Japan, South Africa, Switzerland and the United States.
