Geological reasons of ozone layer destructionOctober 19, 1999The modern science admits that the ozone concentration in the stratosphere is diminishing. This process has been fixing since the middle of 1980s. "The most popular hypothesis about technogenic freon that destroys the ozone layer is quite vulnerable", - said Dr. of geology Vladimir Sivorotkin who studies the problem of the ozone layer for ten years. Freon is used mainly as a vaporising fluid in the foam material production and as a coolant in the refrigerating units. According to technogenic-freon hypothesis all technical freon gets to stratosphere where on high 20-25 km the ozone layer exists. In the stratosphere under the ultra-violet irradiation the chlorine that is part of freon reacts with ozone and destroys it. However, there is a contradiction here. Thus, the largest ozone hole lies above the Antarctic regions whereas basic sources of technical freon are in the Northern Hemisphere. The results of a study of nuclear test product movement show that the exchange between air masses of both hemispheres is difficult. Moreover, predictions of the technogenic-freon hypothesis are not accurate though it has at its disposal all data of technical freon production. Vladimir Sivorotkin has developed an alternative hypothesis according to which the ozone layer is diminished by natural reasons. It is well known that the ozone-by-chlorine destruction cycle is not unique. There are nitrogen and hydrogen cycles of the ozone destruction too. Hydrogen is "basic gas of Earth". Its main resources are concentrated in the Earth interior and get to the atmosphere through the system of faults (rifts). V.Sivorotkin emphasises that ozone holes lie above the centres of hydrogen degasation of the Earth. Now the system of rifts is well studied by geologists that makes it possible to predict places of ozone holes. Thus, the ozone hole above the Antarctic lies there constantly because main degasation channels - mid-oceanic rifts - draw nearer around the Antarctic and increase "the hydrogen blowing of atmosphere" there. Taking into account a seismic activity enlarging the Russian scientist predicted an appearance of a large ozone hole above the equatorial region of Pacific east part (January 1998). According to V.Sivorotkin, the progressing diminution of Earth ozone layer is directly connected with an intensification of Earth degasation.
