EDCTP appoints Interim Executive Director
December 21, 2004On 10 December 2004 the governing body of the EDCTP (European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership), the EEIG-Assembly, appointed Prof. Bernt Lindtj'¸rn as Interim Executive Director of EDCTP. He will assume this position on December 20 for a period of up to six months until a new Executive Director has been appointed. Prof. Lindtj'¸rn is currently Director of the Centre of International Health at the University of Bergen in Norway.
Former Executive Director Dr. Piero Olliaro has rejoined WHO. "The EEIG-Assembly is thankful to Dr. Olliaro for his significant contributions to the set-up of EDCTP and progression made in implementing the Joint Programme in its first year", declared Chairman of the Assembly Peter Lange. "Under his guidance EDCTP circulated two rounds of calls for the conduct of drug and vaccine trials from which at the moment nine projects for funding have been selected. Furthermore a number of fellowship grants have been assigned and the establishment of a clinical trials registry approved. In July this year the African office of the EDCTP Secretariat was opened in Cape Town (SA) and in September the first annual EDCTP Forum was successfully convened in Rome (IT)."
