Ericsson head named honorary doctor at Lule'åSeptember 08, 2004For his "ability, in his leadership, to turn technology into business in the stiffest possible international competition," Carl-Henric Svanberg has been awarded an honorary doctorate at Lule'å University of Technology in northern Sweden. Since April 2003, Carl-Henric Svanberg has been CEO of Swedish Ericsson. Every year the faculty boards at Lule'å University of Technology confer a number of honorary doctorates on individuals who have in some way contributed to the activities and development of the University or in some other way provided inspiration to the University's teachers, researchers, students, and other staff. Early this summer the Faculty of Technology named the "quality guru" Joseph Juran an honorary doctor, and now the Faculty is conferring the degree on Carl-Henric Svanberg, with the following words: "For having shown a unique ability, in his leadership, to turn technology into business in the stiffest possible international competition as well as a rare capacity for communicating technology and business in an intense media focus." "I accept this honor with both joy and pride," comments Carl-Henric Svanberg about the Faculty's decision. "Telecom is one of the most exciting businesses you can be involved in today, and Ericsson is the world's leading telecom company." Carl-Henric Svanberg was born in Porjus, northern Sweden, in 1952, and took a master's degree in engineering, in technical physics and electrotechnology, at Linkoeping University in 1977 and a master's degree in economics at Uppsala University in 1983.
