My A Level Results Were Disappointing, But Now I'm A Rocket Scientist!August 13, 2004When Jay Butcher (22) received his A level results, he was shocked and disappointed. Despite originally thinking that he would have to re-sit an entire year, Jay took his tutor's advice, looked at the University clearing system, got a place at the University of Surrey, and earlier this year graduated in Aerospace Engineering with a 2:2. 'Initially, I hadn't even thought of using the clearing system, but I am so glad I did. I managed to get on a course that covered exactly the subjects I was interested in, because the admissions tutors looked at my course work as well as my actual exam results.' Jay has not looked back since going to the University of Surrey. He got heavily involved in student radio and the Student Union, and has now landed a contract with Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, looking at how rocket fuel behaves in low gravity situations. Jay says, ' I would recommend that anyone who is disappointed with their results on Thursday think carefully about what is best for them. Don't dismiss clearing out of hand, because it could just be one of the best things you do in your academic career.' | |||||||||||||||||||||
