University Of Surrey Awarded £8.8m EPSRC GrantJuly 22, 2004The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has recognised and rewarded UniS' commitment to industrially focussed research and training with an £8.8m grant. The 30% increase in revenue, the maximum increase allowed, will fund a new Collaborative Training Account (CTA) to continue UniS' world-class research and training programmes. EPSRC awarded the grant increase on advice from a committee composed of leading industrialists. The CTA will support the development of a new EngD in Nano-materials and Nano-technology as well as the continuation of the highly successful EngD in Environmental Technology and a suite of Masters provision in subjects including Mobile Communications, Satellite Communications and Communications Networks and Software. UniS' continued commitment to industry is highlighted by the fact that these courses will be readily available to those in full-time employment, by offering blended courses of directed e-based self-study along with intensive on-campus study periods. In addition, it will enable the foundation of new Knowledge Transfer Partnerships enabling to benefit from the University's expertise Dr Chris France, recently appointed CTA director at UniS, said "This award recognises the University of Surrey's track record in providing the training that industry needs. The significant increase in resources from EPSRC, coupled with the flexibility to deploy them, will secure the existing market leading provision and expand training into the leading edge areas of nano-materials and nano-technology." | |||||||||||||||||||||
