International solar physics conference set June 1-6 at Montana State

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- An international conference on the sun-earth-space relationship will be held June 1-6 at Montana State University.

Approximately 125 solar and space physicists, climatologists and scientists in other disciplines are expected to attend the workshop titled "Solar variability, Earth's climate and the space environment." They will discuss solar variability and the pathways through which it influences space and the global climate. They will explore the physics of the solar interior, the solar atmosphere, the heliosphere, the Earth's atmosphere and climate.

"We live in a time in which understanding the causes and consequences of global climate change and protecting our rapidly developing technologies in space and on Earth are becoming increasingly important," said conference organizers.

Besides lectures, the conference will include four working sessions on recent developments in:

1. Solar irradiance modeling
2. Progress in space weather modeling and forecasting.
3. Long-term solar variability, solar-stellar connection and space climate.
4. Solar influence on global climate.

The workshop is hosted by MSU's Solar Physics Group. It is sponsored by CAWSES, an international program sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP); Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Center, the International Heliophysical Year, Montana State University, and NASA's "Living with a Star" program.
