Faculty of 1000 Biology (www.facultyof1000.com/), a revolutionary literature awareness service for the life sciences, today announce the launch of a new faculty - ecology. The ecology faculty expands the coverage of Faculty of 1000 Biology, adding to the existing offering of 15 faculties covering subject areas from biochemistry to structural biology.
Harold Mooney, Professor of Environmental Biology at Stanford University is one of three Heads of Faculty for ecology. He warmly welcomes the expansion of the service to include ecological research:

Ilkka Hanski is Professor, Department of Ecology and Systematics at the University of Helsinki in Finland, while Jane Lubchenco is Valley Professor of Marine Biology and Distinguished Professor of Zoology at Oregon State University. These respected leaders in the field have helped recruit over 150 experts to act as Section Heads and Faculty Members for the ecology faculty. The new faculty includes 11 sections: Behavioural ecology; Community ecology & biodiversity; Conservation & restoration ecology; Ecosystem ecology; Evolutionary ecology; Global change ecology; Marine & freshwater ecology; Physiological ecology; Population ecology; Spatial & landscape ecology; Theoretical ecology.
The Faculty of 1000 Biology ecology faculty not only evaluates articles in ecology journals, but also provides evaluations on relevant articles published in general science journals, and in journals aimed at other specialties. Ecologists and conservation biologists will be able to quickly and easily identify important articles of relevance to them in a range of journals, and read evaluations of the articles by experts in the field.
Faculty of 1000 Biology is a unique online service that systematically highlights the most interesting papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of over 1900 of the world's leading scientists.
